#Vultures! In the wetlands!
#BirdCallOutI was at the back of my little bog after releasing a few bats the other day just after sunset, when I noticed two of my local black vultures having a bit of a cuddle atop a tree snag at the edge of the water. Volume up for some swamp sounds.
🖤 I love that my backyard corner of the world is an overlap of black vultures and turkey vultures.

Oh, look one of the parent vultures just came home. Based on Internet sources, she should be or he should be bringing solid food for the chicks cause they are well old enough.
But I just watched the adult feed one of the chicks by vomiting into its mouth. So that’s still going on despite the chicks being pretty good flyers. -

The only shot that I’ve got with thing one and thing two hanging with one of the parents. The things are the two on the left. In another couple of days, I will have to go strictly on behavior to tell the difference between the two chicks and the parents.

This is thing one and thing two. They are the black vulture chicks who have been raised in the shop. They’ve been playing on the old dilapidated porch on the house.
They can bounce around like they have rubber bands for legs. They can also fly fairly well. It’s about 50 feet to the porch from the barn and they fly back-and-forth between the two. They will still be dependent on the parents for a while. -

Really great small documentary done by @sober_pirate ! Imagine that this is done by just 1 guy. All of the filming, editing, everything. So impressive that it makes it incompatible with our Trade Based Society since he will have to stop doing these long form videos because he cannot sustain this.

Someone like Dima cannot continue to volunteer and do these important videos because he gets no support from this society. This is why we cannot have a saner world. This society is not built for humans, for us to be relaxed and taken care of, so we can do important stuff. No, this society is built for humans to be machines who create a lot of stuff. Sell, buy, consume. Trade.
At least my example with TROM and my struggles, and Dima's example, are a direct proof that this society is a primitive one.
Kudos to you Dima for doing this for so long and I look forward to the next remaining episodes. Maybe a miracle will happen and you can get some support to continue!

Black vultures are much stronger fliers, & will fly above them, swooping down once the turkey vultures locate a meal (carcass). Turkey vultures are bigger and can fend off a black vulture one on one, but sometimes the black vultures will come in as a gang and take over.

Turkey Vultures are interesting birds, called "disgusting" by Charles Darwin but appreciated by many for their vital role in "purifying" natural environments, with their efficient waste removal.
In SW Florida it is common to see turkey vultures commingling with black vultures, in a symbiotic/competitive way:
Turkey #vultures have the best sense of smell of any bird, able to detect carrion while awkwardly circling, riding thermals. -
