Elon Musk’s journey from humanitarian to poster of rightwing memes

Since the unrest across Britain began last week, Musk’s outspoken criticism of the government has surprised many.

But it’s only the latest example of the billionaire’s progression down the #radicalisation pathway.

After making his fortune in the dotcom boom, and growing it with his involvement in PayPal,
Musk invested in Tesla in 2004, eventually becoming the company’s chief executive.

For a time, Musk presented himself as one may have expected from a former software executive running an electric vehicle company:
he spoke at length about the risk of climate change,
while launching and investing in other projects like SpaceX, OpenAI and The Boring Company
that could all be sold as matching a general 🔸vision of improving humanity’s future.🔸

But around 2020, Musk’s public profile began to shift.
He had always been a fairly engaged user of Twitter,
but as the pandemic hit, he became a far more frequent poster
and experienced his first brushes with the world of #factchecking:
breezy assertions about the danger or length of the pandemic led to calls for his account to be suspended for spreading #misinformation.

In his private life, Musk’s relationships with his #family were in turmoil.
His relationship with Claire Boucher, better known as the musician #Grimes, began to fall apart in 2021.
Boucher, the mother of three of his at least 12 children, eventually ended up in court over custody rights.

According to his biographer, Walter Isaacson, around this period Musk began sending
“rightwing memes and conspiracy theories” to Grimes,
who replied: “Is this from 4chan or something? You’re actually starting to sound like someone from the far right.”

At the same time, his daughter #Vivian came out as transgender and changed her name,
declaring that she no longer wanted to “be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form”.

Musk himself has cited Vivian as a reason for his political shift, telling the pop psychologist Jordan Peterson that he had
“lost [his] son [sic], essentially”, and concluding that his son “is dead, killed by the woke mind virus”.

“For a lot of people who are radicalised there is a formative personal experience that creates the cognitive opening for their radicalisation journey,”
said one radicalisation expert, who asked not to be named because of fear of reprisal.
“For Musk it seems that his daughter’s transition was that opening for him.”

Solo negli ultimi 3 giorni il tizio ne ha cacciate fuori di ogni, è sempre peggio. Ma cosa è peggio, il fatto che abbia personalmente violato le regole della propria piattaforma pubblicando un video #deepfake politico senza dire fosse falso (nytimes.com/2024/07/27/us/politics/elon-musk-kamala-harris-deepfake.html)… o la sua solita figura di merda nell’usare malissimo le parole, avendo spinto la figlia a dire (sul social dell’avversario!!) che in realtà she do be “look[ing] pretty good for a dead bitch” (huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/elon-musks-trans-daughter-hits-back-called-her-dead_n_66a2b3d5e4b0ac6125bde884)?

Vabbè ma che minchia deve dire uno a questo punto? Io ho in mano tanti spazi online, anche se piccoli, qualcuno di mia completa proprietà e qualcuno che semplicemente amministro, ma comunque non andrò mai a violare le regole scritte solo perché so che tanto non verrò bannata, dato il fatto che o comando io, o sono di troppo aiuto per mandarmi via per cazzatine. Invece lui dall’alto della sua megalovania fa il cazzo che gli pare. Poi il fatto della figlia, maremma cara… Si lamenta che quando lei aveva 16 anni è stato ingannato a firmare i documenti per il consenso dei genitori (entrambi) alle titty skittles / al girl juice, di non aver capito potessero causare la sterilità, dando così bella mostra della sua incapacità di comprensione del testo, bello e semplice. Dice testualmente “Mio figlio è morto. Ucciso dal VIRUS MENTALE WOKE”; raga non è uno scherzo a questo punto, è andato completamente mentale… gli altri sono malati, ma lui che va in ufficio fatto di ketamina no. E poi continua, con una frase che sembra uscita da r/iam14andthisisdeep, “si chiama deadnaming perché tuo figlio è morto“. Premio padre dell’anno a questo tizio, che proprio non capisce che, se ora non fosse così invasato, e se prima non fosse stato totalmente assente, la figlia non se ne sarebbe andata.

Coi #miliardari è sempre così, ogni volta che ce n’è qualcuno nuovo, ti viene quasi la nostalgia per quello di prima… citando Mortebianca: il conservatorismo estremista di Musk fa rimpiangere il professionalismo calcolatore di Bezos, e il liberismo sfrenato di Bezos fa rimpiangere Bill Gates, che quantomeno promuoveva l’aumentare le tasse ai ricchi. Secondo me, per legge, una volta che una piattaforma digitale diventa classificabile come gatekeeper, non deve più stare in mano ad corporazioni for-profit, quindi devono o essere cedute, o chi le possiede deve essere riconvertire la sua attività in una non-profit. Frega ‘n cazzo della mano invisibile, usatela per farvi le pippe su come lo stato non deve mai intervenire, va va…

Today we celebrate Vivian Heyl. Mom, Grandma, Viv. Whatever name you knew her by, I'm sure at some point in time she used her gift of nurturing on you. She was indeed a nurturer - of the mind, body and spirit. Her words of encouragement could only be outdone by her quick wit and, when needed, sharp tongue. She loved unconditionally, but she had no problem calling you on your crap. She welcomed ALL to her family - and about the only thing that would get you unwelcome was making someone else feel that way. Today we celebrate the life she lived, the example she set and the love she shared.

Many have asked what they can do for the family or in memory of Mom - I offer these suggestions:

Play a game with your family. There is nothing that would be a better gift than to share joy with your family and in memory of Mom.

Read a book (it can have pictures). Mom loved to go on adventures in books and she led us kids down the same path.

Encourage a kid (preferably one who no else even seems to notice). I promise that is the one Mom would spot first and immediately bring into the fold.

We would also love to hear your stories about Mom. We would love anyone who would like to share stories or memories to do so in the comment thread. Maybe you have a story where you realized, possibly even years later, that you had been molded by a momma's love in the form of Vivian Heyl.

If you would like to make a memorial gift, please consider the children and youth fund at Brookland UMC or the friends of the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library, the Lawrence County Library or your local library.

Lastly, just keep loving us! We are sad, but we are blessed.
