About 20 years ago I started a little project: a Visual FoxPro to JavaScript transpiler and runner. It never got far enough to be really useful, and I figured I should rescue it before some random flipped bit on my SSD made the whole thing permanently unusable. So I gave an AI coding agent a job: help me turn it into something presentable and actually usable.

The project now does two things:

1. It transpiles Visual FoxPro code to JavaScript.
2. It includes a Nashorn-based runtime, so the generated JavaScript can be executed directly.

There’s a parser, an AST, >100 tests, and even a Node.js runner.

@bytex64 @foone @burnitdown To be more precise: #VisualFoxPro is #microsoft 's Embrace-Extend-Extinguish version of dBase, created by buying the company behind the dBase clone FoxBase and developing a Windows version. Goals: Collect all professional dBase users (die-hard DOS users), make them use Windows, then drive them into the similar but more modern in-house product Access, extinguish dBase from existence.

Scheint trotz Fachkräftemangel aussichtslos zu sein. Ok, seine Skills sind ein wenig speziell, er ist noch auf Visual FoxPro-Projekte spezialisiert. Aber Support, Beta-testen, Beratung etc. pp. ist ja auch heute noch gefragt. Falls Ihr also was hört, bitte melden... Und gern teilen.
