  9. We recently adopted a cat. He is a black cat, but his fur is ticked. It is black at the tips of the hairs but white at the bottoms.

It also is crimped / wavy; so are his whiskers. Is this similar to American Wirehair hair and whiskers? I looked for close-up images, but was unable to find any.

  15. This really is worth noting!

Turning on the light to turn off pain: This is the principle behind a new analgesic method called light-induced analgesia (LIA), discovered by scientists from the CNRS1 in rodents. Noninvasive and drug-free, LIA proves to be more effective and longer-lasting than commonly used analgesics such as ibuprofen.

LIA relies on the direct inhibition of pain receptors.

  21. The Strong Must Heal, Too
The conversation around emotional healing is crucial, especially for DVMs and those in helping roles.

Compassion fatigue is not burnout; it is a system crash. We expect endless empathy from vets and techs, forgetting they are also carrying our pain. This is a massive failure of Emotional Hygiene.

I wrote a long-form article addressing this crisis. I share my personal story, the systemic roots of DVM burnout, and why we must move from expecting compassion to actively protecting it.

  24. Charlie was hospitalized after swallowing and inhaling grass. He couldn’t breathe properly and vomited some, but not everything. The doctor initially suspected a heart issue, but his heart is healthy for his age. His aorta had slight turbulence when his heart rate increased. He also had a fever from stress, which he received medication for. He’s still drowsy and has the bandage on his right paw from anesthesia.
