  1. I seriously wonder if the #utgop realizes that not getting the signatures to ask the voters to repeal a law with a 70%+ approval rating is a blessing in disguise. #utpol

  2. Welp, that's done. The party is now a neo-fascist cult of personality built around a authoritarian con man, and there is no place in it for me. #utpol #utgop

  3. At this point I'm only in the GOP to vote in primaries. The party mainstream is completely insane these days. #utpol #utgop sltrib.com/news/politics/2023/

  4. When it comes to candidates for federal office, I have one very hard and fast requirement: you must believe in western liberal democracy. This means you subscribe to the idea that free and fair elections are inviolable, and anyone who attempts to subvert them through deceit, tampering, threats, or physical violence deserves to be subjected to the full force of the law.

The recent "debates" between Bruce Hough and Celeste Maloy have made one thing clear to me: both suffer from a serious and disqualifying case of brain worms about the former president. They are willing to rail on the many criminal charges filed against him, but also freely admit that they haven't bothered to even read what they are or consider if they are with merit. That's not the kind of person I want writing or voting on legislation, regardless of how many of my friends seem to be enthusiastic about Celeste Maloy.

In the Republican special primary election for CD2, I will be voting for Becky Edwards. She understands Trump as a criminal who attempted to overthrow the republic to avoid consequences coming due for his decades of committing crimes. I can't abide any member of Congress who denies this reality. #utpol #utgop

  5. Since Becky Edwards is the only one without brain worms about TFG, I guess that's who I'm voting for in the primary. #utgop #utpol

  6. Apparently the outgoing party chair put on his clown shoes today. The only reason these people are afraid of #RankedChoiceVoting is because it is a direct threat to their power. They've invested decades in cornering the elections market and will go to full on war with anything that might upend it. That's all the more reason to back #rcv. #utgop #utpol

  7. I left early. Tore up my ballot and tossed both it and my credential on the trash on the way out the door. #utgop #utpol

  8. Next candidate is Mary Foremaster. She's railing on DEI and has a strong "I've been listening to a lot of YouTubers" energy. I think it's time to bounce without a voter because it doesn't matter who wins. #utgop #utpol

  9. Ugh. Another caucus fanatic. He's claiming people don't show up because candidates get signatures to get on the ballot. Maybe they don't show up because the party has become a bomb-throwing circus. #utgop #utpol

  10. First candidate for state central committee is Blaine Nay. He's a former county party chair who repeatedly violated his obligation to candidate neutrality and then tried to claim it was his wife doing it. He's also been cozy with the local Libertarian Party to the point of promoting their members within the party when they switch their registration back and forth. This includes the previous chair Volney Morin who switched party registration 2 months before being the GOP chair, was a member of the Oath Keepers, and is a twice-disbarred lawyer. #utgop #utpol

  11. Now the party secretary (who has had my name spelled incorrectly on party records for 5 years) is pushing a proposal to get rid of vote by mail. As usual, it's being presented as a "vote integrity" proposal. And he's also demanding that we start to narc on neighbors who have moved and haven't yet updated their own voter registration. This is a farce. #utgop #utpol

  12. County party treasurer Casey Anderson is going on about how resolutions and amendments are often not heard at state convention. But... that's actually good. Most of them are nonsense pushed by a vocal hyper minority and delegates have little patience for it. That's why they get pushed to the end of the agenda and dropped! #utgop #utpol

  13. Only 120 of the 296 county delegates are here today. Can't say I'm shocked. They did a terrible job of notification and there's little reason to be here without much in the way of candidates. #utgop #utpol

  14. Party chair is talking about getting the word out about party events. They didn't even publish the list of candidates for today on the website as they promised to do 2 weeks ago. There's also never been a record of central committee meeting dates and minutes for anyone to view. #utgop #utpol

  15. The county party is pushing a "voter roll cleanup". In short, we're being asked to go door-to-door asking if the registered voter still lives there and reporting if they do not. It's being pitched as a voter registration drive, but it feels a lot like that embarrassing post-election snipe hunt in Nevada after the 2020 election. #utgop #utpol

  16. Gov Spencer Cox dropped in to say hi to us. He was in Washington County yesterday for their county convention. #utgop #utpol

  17. Having so many unopposed seats is an embarrassment. It's a result of a cartel that puts every political opponent, small or large, through hell to keep the field toxic to all but their chosen candidates. They spin the lack of opposition as "well we're just so dang good at our jobs that nobody thinks we should be replaced". #utgop #utpol

  18. Because my sense of civic duty overrides my better judgement, I'm at the Iron County Republican Party 2023 organizing convention. Not much to do as a county delegate since all of the candidates for executive offices are running unopposed. There are three candidates for state central committee, and (without any surprise) at least one is a stereotypical #utgop bombthrower. I'm not sure I want to do the delegate thing again in 2024 as this party has sprinted, not drifted, away from me. #utpol

  19. This is legal but it shouldn't be. This is the second appointment for the Utah GOP following #2022Elections. The other was House District 1 with Rep. Joel Ferry. This is done so that the seat stays with the party of the resigning legislator, and instead of district-wide voters picking their rep, the party does it. In two years, if the person runs for election, they're an incumbent. It's an electoral scam and shouldn't be allowed. #utpol #utdem #utgop #electoralscams
