    Hello @freemo πŸ‘‹πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈ

I read through your above post and have some suggestions iF you are interested in adding to your list & discussion. Since the algorithm here is FIFO and also on the client side ( people / servers / scripts see your post and respond in kind with similar keywords & subjects ) who you follow and interact with matters. Most are real people but some are bots so keep that in mind.

Have you tried the three feeds under the 🌐 icon? Browsing that is one way to get exposed to people you don't follow already but you probably already know that based on your post above, yes?

If you are interested in following news here is a nice list to start with that is also actively being updated with global and local news sources:

You also mentioned a few things about data scraping and your current server admin not wanting to add or adopt an anti-data scraping / anti-LLM language. Not all servers are pro-LLM. Some servers have policies about that already such as where I am hosted on server wise here :

    infosec.eXchange/about

You could adopt your own #UserPrivacyPolicy also, for free, so feel free to copy it and link in your profile to have your own Privacy Policy. Mine is specifically about commercial LLM's and to not use my data / posts for commercial LLM's as input. I also have this same policy for myself linked on Twitter. You could change the language if you want to also include noncommercial LLMs if you want:

Have you talked to some #fediverse server admins about their experience here on the fediverse vs. the Oligarch Controlled web hosting platforms? One thing that _constantly_ comes up as a comparison is moderation practices which are different per server vs. the Oligarch Web Hosting ones in the way they are run. Having control of the moderation policy for your own system, like in the BBS Bulletin Board & USENET days, is important and can be set by your admin and moderators by their moderation policy on their server. This is usually called out and linked to in the https:// server-url-example . tld / about page.

One thing of note though about ' what you think is wrong per group ' though is perhaps the way those group dynamics are playing out is how that group interacts, perhaps. Not all interactions observed by someone not in said group ' is something going wrong ' so maybe what is happening is what that group is interested in which could be a misunderstanding perhaps? Observe for longer and engage with the group could be an age / culture / interest / local / regional / national / cultural / tradition thing where you may or may not know about a specific thing that could seem negative but in that specific group could be an ' in joke ' or ' sh!tpost ' type meme situation, perhaps.

You mentioned also about in your CW, how you think ' Trust in Fediverse seems is fading ' but I didn't see in your post where you mentioned this anywhere? One thing to note about the fediverse architecture is that it has a pro-user filters where you can create your own keyword block lists, URL blocks, etc. Have you explored that area at all? There is a history of creating a better run per server per user experience culture so that when harassment by a specific user or group of users can be delt with by the user as well as by the server admin who both have powerful blocking tools at their account level to by user or by server block that type interaction or mute them. There is a good history of this on the fediverse being pro-user control of their interactions as a good feature built in.

You also said that ' AND not being built on as relationships / networks etc ' which seems incorrect since you listed a TON of groups with similar interests who interact together. So who you follow, like other social networks, depends on your own choices of who you follow.

Keywords and hashtags ( searchable using the compass 🧭 icon ) are a great way to discover new topics and also new people with shared interest in specific keywords. Each server also has a small graph showing keyword trends and there is also a news links feature that the server shows based on link frequency of the link shared which is quite handy!

Have you tried adding in a #UserPrivacyPolicy URL? You could write that and then use a link shortener or a direct link. I beta tested this on XAi's Grok ~36hrs after they launched Grok this year. Grok could not grok it. πŸ˜† I even let the admin know it was a trap ahead of time and to NOT get Grok to read and agree to my User Privacy Policy.

Here is a sample I used at Twitter & in the fediverse that you are welcome to use! πŸ’―
