Last Saturday, the #UNMappers Kenya Youth Climate Mapping Externship team went back.

Armed with #KoboToolbox and #ChatMap, the team fanned out across Sarang'ombe and Woodley to revisit those same points and see what five years had changed.

What they found was remarkable. The numbers had reduced. A significant percentage of the original trash points had been reclaimed. The community had moved the needle — through local action, not outside intervention.

James is one of our new validation candidates and is our top validator for the Ceel Gadde roads project validating 52 tasks or almost 30% of the project. He is also one of our top mappers for the previous month, adding 35 km of roads.

CityMapper Externship: A #UNMaps Community Ambassador and Chapter Initiative in Cameroon 🇨🇲

For four (4) weeks in April to May 2026, our #UNMaps Community Ambassador, Engelbert Modo, led an exploratory CityMapper Externship initiative.

🌟 The vision is clear: to build a generation of young people who can use open data to address real problems in Africa. 🌍

Our UN Maps Community Ambassador, Silvina Meritano, is conducting an open mapping workshop in Venado Tuerto, Argentina from today 28 May to 30 May, Saturday. The workshop will focus on mapping in #OpenStreetMap for flood prevention and preparedness. With more than 80 people registered, this event will contribute to disaster mitigation strategies not only in the city but in the region.
