Community Mapathons in India 🇮🇳

🗺 Mapathon in Pune

In May, #UNMaps Community Ambassador Pawan Muddu joined online for a mapathon hosted by Tomtom. They completed mapping flood-affected and drought-prone areas in India.

🎤 Swecha presentation

In June, Pawan was invited to share about #UNMappers & #openstreetmap by Swecha, a #foss community in India. Students learned about OSM and how it can potentially be used for their projects.

Launch and Week 1 of the #UNMappers Kenya Youth Climate Mapping Externship is a wrap! 👏🗺️

We are currently in Phase 1, the Learning Phase, where participants are building their geospatial skills and developing a deep understanding of the climate issues we are here to map.

We opened the week with onboarding, welcoming our 25 participants and setting the tone for the seven weeks ahead.

James is one of our new validation candidates and is our top validator for the Ceel Gadde roads project validating 52 tasks or almost 30% of the project. He is also one of our top mappers for the previous month, adding 35 km of roads.

Every time floods hit Nairobi, the same question fills our timelines,

"How can we help solve this?"

This Saturday, we answered that question , before the floods come.

As #UNMappers Kenya, community ambassador, I ran a JOSM training session followed by a mini mapathon focused on Ruai, one of Nairobi's fastest-growing neighbourhoods in eastern Nairobi.
