Major League Baseball has rolled out its Automated Ball/Strike System aka Robo- Umps this season. (Robot umpires have been tested in the minor leagues since 2019)
The roll out also includes a Challenge system where the human umpire makes each call, which can be appealed to the computer.
Each team has the ability to challenge two calls per game. Only a batter, pitcher or catcher may challenge a call, and a challenge must be made within 2 seconds.

No, they didn't. It's a challenge system, like basketball, with the machine taking the place of umpires because who needs people? We have machines. Someday, all of the baseball players will be replaced, too. Can't have brown people making money in America.

This detail where umpire James Hoye notes Domingo German's hand was "the stickiest hand I've ever felt" mustn't be the kind of thing juvenile umpires dream of one day doing growing up on whatever their home planet is.
You imagine that dream reel is filled with mostly the cool stuff: calling strikes for balls in the dirt, throwing All Stars out of games, botching safe/out calls at first, etc.

This is entirely subjective, but it feels to me like the MLB umpires are doing a better job of calling the edge pitches correctly so far this year. That is, pitches just outside the zone are called a ball, and pitches that catch the edge of the zone (per the tech) are called a strike, far more often this year than in the past. I'd love to see some data either confirming or disproving this. #baseball #mlb #umpires

You know who’s having trouble with the pitch clock? It’s not #pitchers. Or #hitters. Or #umpires. It’s the “color” guys on local #radio broadcasts. They’re so used to a specific pace for the game that allows them to tell their stories and offer their analysis. They cannot keep up with this new pace. I don’t know whether TV is better. My team doesn’t do #SpringTraining and YouTube TV doesn’t carry the MLB Network anymore. #Baseball
