  1. Hype for the Future 73D: L’Anse aux Meadows

Introduction The Vikings and the associated settlements, though largely identified as having originated within the region now known as Northern Europe and Scandinavia, have since expanded from the modern nations of Norway and Sweden east into Finland and Russia, though only barely so, but more importantly, south and west into Denmark, Scotland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, and, finally, Newfoundland. Old World or New World? Prior to 1492, the regions that the Vikings had settled […]

  6. @UndisScot Isles of #Harris and #Lewis #Uist THE COLORS. As if someone had turned up the saturation knob too high, but it really looks like this at Mangersta Stacks (Lewis), #StandingStones (Callanish), The Golden Road (Harris) and some Caribic-looking beach at Uist.... 💓 #scotland

  7. For #CHI we can submit a revised version after initial reviews. In contrast, it now feels bad to write a #UIST rebuttal without being able to directly show changes. I wonder if reviewers will feel the same way and if that reduces the chances of seriously engaging with rebuttals. 🤔

  8. Back in the highlands. At Tyndrum for a coffee break. Strong number plate game here.

  9. We went each Sunday for the mass
    recited in my parent’s language
    that wasn’t mine…

  13. 📣 Hey #CHI folks! Have you used an #LLM in your work as part of your *methodology* in #HCI?

E.g. to analyse data from a user study. Or maybe you've encountered this as a reviewer? 🤔

I'm curious to hear your thoughts and experiences or reading suggestions! ✍️ 💡

    #Film et #Bizarre

J'ai trouvé très bizarre ce canapé et cette télé sortie du sable d'une plage déserte de l'ile d'#Uist (Hébrides, Écosse).
Je m'y suis installé pour regarder un improbable film 🤔

  15. Cycling north & south #Uist on the Outer #Hebrides - my #bikepacking Scotland diary day 16 - there are beaches & sunsets after the storm on day 15

  18. I really like the #UIST author guidelines especially the section on evaluating systems. Very useful also for #IEEEVIS reviews. uist.acm.org/2023/author-guide

  19. Next was a short talk by Jun Nishida on exoskeletons for sharing hand gestures at #UIST. Besides being cool, it seems like this approach probably has applications for learning in the arts, industry, and beyond youtube.com/watch?v=oBHAh1krqy (7/8) #HCI

  20. I tried to capture the strange light on the day I visited these standing stones in Uist, Scotland, oils on board. A partial success maybe, but it sold so someone is happy! I love painting archaeological landscapes. #StandingStones #Uist #Scotland

  21. A walk around a standing stone at dusk. #ArtAdventCalendar day 19. Today a piece about a journey because I should have been travelling south today but have been thwarted by strikes. Now setting off tomorrow. North East South West. Collage with ink peat and watercolour.

  22. Hey #datavis friends 👋 This might be nightmare fuel, but hear me out: I made a single place for all the deadlines 😱 It started out as a sticky note, then a Google sheet, but now it's a csv rendered with #d3js

I'm going to share more widely once I feel "done" with it, but I wanted to run it by some folks ahead of time. You can make PRs using the little pen icons next to some of the estimated dates 🖊️
