Ubuntu Forums now has an official archive!

Ubuntu Forums was established when Ubuntu was first released for users to start conversations about Ubuntu. It ran for 2 decades before the forums has officially shut down in 2025, and it was served as an online gathering space for Ubuntu users for different purposes, such as technical support, debates, and so on.

However, the new Ubuntu Discourse forums, which now uses Discourse instead of the old-school vBulletin, has caused the old Ubuntu Forums to get shut down in 2025. The Ubuntu team now has a very great news to those who wish to revisit the old times of the forums, bringing in a blast from the past.

Archived threads and their messages are now available on GitHub! Dubbed Ubuntu Forums Archive, this preservation repository allows you to take a look at threads that were created while Ubuntu Forums was still in operation. This was created for the following reasons:

They wanted to preserve all threads that were created by users as a historical preservation project, which makes preserving valuable information a great thing. Although Internet Archive captured most of the Ubuntu Forums, this project covers 100% of Ubuntu Forums!
For the people who helped sustain and build the foundation of the Ubuntu Community, this archive is served as honoring their legacy by preserving these records.
For ease of use, Markdown has been chosen as a chosen archiving format in order so that people can easily download and consume forum threads, be it just one thread or the entire clone.
