🐢 Heute feiern wir den Tag der Schildkröte mit einem Meisterwerk der zoologischen Buchkunst: A Monograph of the Testudinata 📚 von Thomas Bell (1832–1836). Bell verfolgte das ambitionierte Ziel, alle bekannten Schildkrötenarten – lebende ebenso wie ausgestorbene – zu beschreiben. Damit legte er wichtige Grundlagen für die Reptilienordnung. In Deutschland ist das seltene Werk nur in vier Bibliotheken erhalten.
