  6. Huzzah for a return of Captain Ezri Dax, and presumably her gorgeous ship, the USS Aventine!

Star Trek Online is launching a new event with Nicole DeBoer returning to voice Captain Dax.

Ezri’s journey to captaincy, and her growth to a hero captain, remains one of my favourite character arcs in the Relaunch Treklit novelverse. As well, the Aventine Vesta-class slipstream explorer is my favourite ship design.

I’m a fan of the Vanguard novels but recognize the issues you’ve raised. I do think they’d make an excellent, if darker serialized Star Trek streaming series. The right casting and performance could really bring foreshadowing nuance to the series complex ensemble.

David Mack, in particular, tends to write as though he’s writing with the screen in mind as he was originally a screenwriter who switched over to books.

Ward, as an ex-marine usually delivers on the action. Working with Dilmore seemed a good balance while he was developing as a writer but I enjoyed his solo Relaunch TNG books written later.

Last thought, there have been Vanguard books and stories written after the initial run of Vanguard and Seeker books. I’m wondering if you’re interleaving those as well.

*Harm’s Way*, a TOS focused book, was written by Mack quite recently (released in 2022). It fits in the midst of the Vanguard series and takes place 5 days after TOS episode S2 06 ‘The Doomsday Machine.’ Some find it quite dark, but for me, it’s one of the best Star Trek books in recent years.

I have David Mack’s books as auto-buys. My pre-ordered copy of this one arrived earlier in the week.

I’m looking forward to settling down with it this long Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.

But Mack and ‘light’ are a rare combination. Curious to see how that works out.

  9. I just had a thought: I do not expect any 60 year anniversary film or episode at all, sadly. But what if there was a big book thing (novels, but also comics) coming? Like, oh my, that would be fantastic, wouldn‘t it!

  12. Girafe of Strange New Pod talked to @[email protected] about her excellent book "Second Self".
Do not watch if you don't want spoilers. There are massive spoilers about this book.

I think I'm going to give "Second Self" a re-listen soon. It's one of my top favourite Trek books

  18. @UnaMcCormack loving Asylum so far! One question, how do we pronounce Euxhana?

I've been leaving the X silent reading it like yoo-harna

Day 26 – Trek Book (fiction or non-fiction)

I've been looking forward to this prompt. I want all your book recommendations!

So... which one to choose? There are so many.

Here are just a very few of my personal highlights:

    Fiction:
📘 "Articles of the Federation" by Keith R. A. DeCandido. -- a unique book as it is a novel about politics and procedures in the Presidential Palace in Paris. I could read a whole series of that. Or watch one. I'd be happy with a mini series.
📚 "Destiny" trilogy by David Mack. -- I had read a few spoilers a while ago and really did not want to read these books. I was upset about the big reveal. But I kept hearing about how great they are and so I finally did read them. I am so glad I did. It's fantastic! It's dramatic and heartbreaking. I cried several times. And I am still upset. LOL Good books do that.

    Non-fiction:
📖 "Star Trek: Open a Channel: A Woman's Trek" by Nana Visitor. -- I have not read far into it yet, but I don't think I am wrong when I say that this is probably the most important non-fiction book about Star Trek.
📓 "The Making of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine". -- One of the first Trek books I ever bought. I love making of books, they are always so very intersting. And this is no exception. (I never liked the translation though and would love to have an English version.)

Shoutout to all the other books, fiction and non-fiction alike.

(I deleted the "Fave" in the prompt, because I just want to pick "one" of many great ones.)
