Just thinking about an irony of the latest faux-outrage about Bud Light...when I was uber-closeted in the early-1990s I was fraid that drinking any light beer would give me away. So I would never drink a light beer if there was a regular beer option. This was college so it wasn't like we had a plethora of options of course. I know that is pathetic in multiple dimensions from a personal and cultural perspective. But it's the same sort of energy that had Coca-Cola invent the "Zero" line since in the US "diet" = feminine and/or gay. Funny related story, the first time I went out for a "beer run" to restock my first post-coming out party from my new LGBT friends I had to go buy not only light beer but Zima. Back in the day that was an even bigger tell :). And this was in a deep red part of the country. I did it anyway but looked over my shoulder the whole time lol.
