@EUCommission I'm surprised the #TMSR track is incrementally gaining footing, and being fast tracked by China.
Hopefully their #BeltAndRoadInitiative can continue to introduce the burgeoning tech to the #GlobalSouth, at the very least.
-
@collectifission Sorry Emil, but ancillary benefits from #TMSR tech, like hydrogen/ammonia mass transit/industrial applications, decades ago, would've cut too far into the fossil fuels/war armaments profit margins.
Nixon and Rickover send their condolences.
*sigh*
Just the sodium battery, industrial heating/cooling, and desalination aspects of the tech, make it that much more embarrassing that the US suppressed it, and essentially gave sustainable baseload energy to China, and now India with their recent 3 Stage advancement.
Alvin Weinberg must be rolling over in his grave.
-
@primonatura This reminds me of the #TMSR project by the genius Alvin Weinberg, that was scrapped for Uranium reactos that produced weapons grade plutonium easier.
Clearly favoring mass murder is counterintuitive, but still profitable in #Capitalism. It's also clear that there's more room for #DemocraticSocialism, everyday.
-
@SustainabilityOnline This is where the virtual #TMSR giveaway, hurts most.
-
@greenpeace When #TMSR tech was discovered decades ago, we would've had ample substitutes for fossil fuels in more vital infrastructure build out, and the tech would now be worldwide, providing clean (95-98%) energy and the requisite job market that comes with root infrastructure development.
The two main contributing factors to his massive failure?.. Capitalist greed and the ultimate enemy: ignorance

@urlyman Thorium Molten Salt Reactors, like China is having continued success with, provides high industrial level heat that's conducive to EV production. #TMSR also lends itself to #desalination, #SodiumIon batteries, #hydrogen and #ammonia production, medical isotopes, and even localized air conditioning because of high heat production in #MSR.
China's #BeltAndRoadInitiative is far more sustainable than most of the West's profit mongering.
-
Atomic Blender visits Copenhagen Atomics for the current state of their Thorium Reactor tech...
-
@collectifission Keep in mind that China is still too reliant for its oil coming via this route. And if The Belt and Road Initiative is to continue the transition to cleaner energy, like #TMSR tech, then China needs to have this source to implement its new 15 year strategy.

The 'last gasp' for Thorium Molten Salt Reactor tech?

RE: https://greennuclear.online/@collectifission/116020506999740387
"Although past advanced reactor projects have been for solely experimental, testing and demonstration purposes, the advanced fuel forms, inherently safe designs, and inventories of potential fission products associated with these reactors indicate that reactors in this category developed for additional purposes, such as power production and industrial applications, are also appropriate for this categorical exclusion".

@Ardubal Most grids are heavily laden with fossil fuels - including the multitude of industries downstream from fossil fuels. That's why less weapons grade plutonium nuclear tech, is crucial for correction.
You lack the inner industry knowledge of #TMSR tech that China is now perfecting. Keep your biases to yourself until you become better educated.
-
This is one of the main reasons why liquid Thorium is preferable to HALEU $$$ Compare to Copenhagen Atomics Onion Core tech...
-
@inkican This is feasible in The Global South, where The Belt and Road Initiative may force some #EmergingEconomies to branch into some fossil fuels based manufacturing, while integrating #TMSR as well.
Hopefully, in the meantime, Capitalism continues to decline, thereby alleviating wanton burning of fossil fuels, and more development in more sustainable nations.
-
-
@petergleick Well there's the additional factor of most renewables, being more exposed to the increasingly destabilizing elements, than, say, #TMSR tech.
But even liquid Thorium being as advanced as it is, within China's Belt and Road Initiative; still is being evaluated by fossil fuels as a #greenwashing tactic, just as investing 10% of fossil fuels profits is to #renewables.
-
@BenjaminHCCarr The fossil fuels industry did a tremendous job in amplifying the disastrous evacuation of the Fukushima community, which far outweighed the reactor damage fallout. They even made Tritium treatment look like a massive abuse of power, when Tritium is critical to naturally occurring Hydrogen, and marketable.
Too bad #TMSR tech has been forgone in their nuclear rehab.

@collectifission What a dull surprise, that the neutered "Climate Change" and past COP failures, to current, lacked impactful prescience, into curbing this Climate CRISIS. And not even a hint at China's recent major success, are live refueling of their #TMSR.
Then halfway through the podcast, a uranium company presents its value range, couched in AI.
The only way to further scream continued abuse from the fossil fuels industry, is to produce these shows on a background of a massive vacuum erasing the value of the masses.
-
@byteseu By the time this is even remotely possible for mass distribution; the fossil fuels industry and the accompanying ecosystems collapse that comes with it, will be less than half it is now - and that's probably a hundred years off.
-
@JustinGerdes We're past too many ecosystem tipping points, to waste good money on collapsing fossil fules/grid tied economies. Even emerging economies are victim to shrinking conversion windows. These Hydrogen companies want to recoup their initial investments, in the face of increasing collapse.
It would take tremendous foresight from alliances in those more sustainable value spaces, in order to scale.

@Casey The average person severely underestimates how deeply seated fossil fuels are, in most Western Capitalist and wealthy nations. Just upgrading the grids alone, is a monumental undertaking that more-and-more, goes directly against increasingly destabilizing ecosystems, globally.
Even emerging economies face the greed component, from originators of hydrogen and #TMSR tech, that also face eco unfriendly time tables, that steer them toward more immediate profits.
-
A little late to the industrial heating space; but this company seems to have cutting edge electrolyzer tech, which aligns well with #TMSR tech. Petrochemical companies like Dow have infiltrated the arena via buying X-Energy - mentioned in this video - so fossil fuels has an inside track on weaponizing hard Thorium fuels, as opposed to the near impossible liquid Thorium transition to weapons grade Plutonium.

Some insights into nuclear waste storage, potential recycling as fuel for breeder reactors, and the benefits of Thorium Reactors. The author incorrectly assumes all Thorium isn't available for weapons grade enrichment, as hard fuels like TRISO HALEU are. Liquid Thorium is the most ideal.

@thejapantimes Hopefully it can be one of the liquid Thorium molten salt reactors, which reportedly have far less availability for weapons grade Plutonium enrichment.
