CW: There are a few little Lord of the Rings references that I'm noticing during my The Witcher 2 Assassins of kings play through.
I haven't read Lord of the Rings in English so I can't say if this is an actual quote from it, however it's pretty clear from where they have their inspiration.

For instance during one of the quests in Vergen you can pick up Foreman Balin's journal and map when you explores the main mine in that area.

Moin @Ilae, ich hatte mal durch den Schnellstarter geblättert und war optisch nicht so angetan. Da ich bei "The Witcher" immer so ein "Lonely Wolf" Feeling habe weiß ich auch nicht so recht wie das ins Rollenspiel zu transportieren ist.
Sag mal bescheid wie sich das Spiel macht - vielleicht gebe ich ihm dann doch noch mal eine Chance.@truantspiele: soll keine Kritik sein. Die Optik trift nur nicht meinen Geschmack.

Oh, a lot of franchises that people like to "translate" to D&D already have their own official RPGs. They vary in quality, but there's usually some effort to make the system fit the fiction, rather than trying to wrap the frayed hide of the fiction around the system.
