I wonder if the fact that the engine was made by Lab Zero (a company that went into a nosedive after the allegations against Mike Zaimont and the following mass resignations, with the remaining developers moving mostly to Future Club) contributed to the downfall of the project.

My thumb hurts from playing Them's Fighting Herds. My thumb isn't made for these kind of fighting games and an Xbox controller isn't either it seems.
