Finally got around to finishing Book 2 of the print version of #KillSixBillionDemons . Thank the Glowcloud for long bus/train rides!
My review: it good, some bored millionaire should throw a gajillion moneys at an animation studio to adapt it.

enjoyed reading the paper "A Case for Feminism in Programming Language Design" (2024) this afternoon.
i'll be interested to see if there are any aspects of my past works which i might want to critically reevaluate, as i continue to turn the paper over in my mind in the coming days

So I am going to read "Norwegian Wood" by Haruki Murakami next. :moomin_butterfly:
I just have been told that this book is quite famous but I didn't know that when I got it in the book fair, it was due to the synopsis. :moomin_mlady:
Also I hurt my right hand :neofox_pensive:
-
So i completed "また、同じ夢を見ていた (I Had That Same Dream Again)".
oof what a ride, in this a grade schooler sets to find out what "happiness" means to her, and i loved how this pans out. I very well did not expect that :moomin_butterfly:
I will write a full review on my site sometime in the future :moomin_flower:
What should i read next?, see the post I replied to :moomin_mlady:

I'm also listening to the fourth season of the Revolutions Podcast. It's great! I didn't know anything about the Haitian revolution.
I was looking for any books or movies related to it but couldn't find anything on the Subreddit (Normally people have a list of recommended related media for each season). Yesterday I asked the book club ...guide? If he had any recommendation and he did. El reino de este mundo de Alejo Carpentier.
It's also Magical realism so it's connected to both of my current interests, neat.
Also I told my mom about it and she handed me a copy of a edition of the book she edited at work.

Yesterday I attended the first session of the Latin American Boom book club, the first book we are reading is Los recuerdos del porvenir de Elena Garro.
It's been fun reading the book and talking with my mom about Elena Garro, they were friends and my mom has a lot of crazy stories about her.
I remember her daughter calling to my house in a crazy haze when I was eight and being super confused.
Well after the first part of the book I feel confused again, but this time, intrigued.

As mentioned in https://merveilles.town/@untrusem/116274011402492640
I am reading "I had that same dream again" , In this book, Nanoka An elementry-schooler is trying to find out "what happiness means to her". :moomin_flower2:
For some, it is "Having someone recognize you to say that it's okay for you to be here" :tealheart:
So this all had made me ponder what “Happiness" means for me as well, And I wanted to ask you all what does it mean for you folks. :moomin_butterfly:
This seems like a simple question, but sometimes it daily life we just survive and just completly forget about this :moomin_flower:

Spent the morning reading and finished The Vegetarian in one sitting. Very sad book, but powerful. A difficult read but with fairly accessible prose, specially for a Nobel price winner.
-
Finished Nemesis Games (The Expanse #5). It took a while for me to be invested into the book, it was a while since I read the previous issue and the format of this one is quite different, with the crew being split and being less about the plot (initially anyway) and more about character development.
But then... shit hit the fan... and I couldn't stop reading and was left wanting for more. Time to grab the next volume I guess!

I've been reading less books recently than I would like to and I find myself having difficulties making the time and focus available for them. When I stumbled across these graphic novels at the library, it re-ignited my love for the medium and I've been thoroughly enjoying them with much gusto in the past days.

"The Drone Shadows are a series of installations, comprising of the outline of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), or drone: a 1:1 representation conveying both the physical reality, and the apparent invisibility, of drone aircraft.
"You can draw drones too.
"The first Drone Shadow was drawn by myself and Einar Sneve Martinussen in London, in January 2012. Since then, I have painted more in Istanbul, Brighton, and Washington DC. A commissioned shadow in Brisbane in 2013 was censored by the state government, but others have been created in Sao Paolo,
Detroit and elsewhere. This handbook is a guide to creating more."Why would you want to draw a drone?
"Drones are used in wars and covert operations worldwide, by many countries. They are used to surveil, to fight, to assassinate, to police, to deter migrants - and to study hurricanes and fight forest fires. But they remain largely invisible, in part due to the manner of their operation, flying for long periods high in the atmosphere, and in part because the political motivations for their use prefer to remain obscure."
– James Bridle

Sick-bed reading: Sailing Back in Time: A Nostalgic Voyage on Canada's West Coast (1996) by Maria Coffey
(I wish I'd met the late Allen and Sharie Farrell, aboard the junk-rigged China Cloud. There was a time, maybe five or six years ago, when the vessel was up on the hard and in desperate need of restoration. I considered making an offer for it — but it deserved more refined shipwright skills than I'll ever have. It's now being brought back to life by a family member: https://www.edengrace.ca/china-cloud Make a donation, if you can!)

My son's apartment has become a sick-bay, the four of us laid low with another flu-like virus: On Friday, I managed to get through an hour-long call in Italian with a local immigration lawyer, propped up with paracetamol and black tea. Since then, I've been tunnelled so deep within a duvet that (if I'm lucky) I might be smothered as I sleep.
In the meantime, I'm reading Harry Partch: Hobo Composer by S. Andrew Granade.
-
Just finished "Hellboy in Hell". It's my second read, which is surprising to me, since I remembered the main beats of the previous volumes, but this final arc fled from my memory. I suppose this is quite appropriate given this story. Great story, I'm glad I took the time to revisit the series. The amalgamation of monster of the week issues mixed with occult and lovecraftian themes really work well with the unusual storytelling structure.
-
Finished This Is How You Lose the Time War last night, the writing was a bit annoying a times but despite that it was a super fun, short and sweet trip. I couldn't stop picturing it with the aesthetics of Alberto Mielgo's Marathon cinematic, but starkly red and blue.

"Building a toy is an excellent place to start designing a game." - https://www.raphkoster.com/2025/11/03/game-design-is-simple-actually/
I didn't really understand most of the rest of the article, but I love it for this sentence alone already. I recently have a vague feel for a card game I want to design (inspired by the amazing "In-Hand Game Design Contests" on BoardGameGeek). The quote above gave me a huge internal relief and joy, that it's fine to just fiddle and experiment with making a fun toy for myself. I don't need to worry for it being A Game. And it now makes so much sense that if the "toy" actually ends up being fun for me, it'll already be a tremendous achievement; plus, it easily may show up to be fun for others too; and incidentally, it might be nearly trivial to make it "a proper game" by slapping some boring goal or other onto it.

Finally finished reading #WatershipDown .
I have a lot of feelings about it, will try to write a proper "review" later.
For now I'll just say it's one of the best novels I've read.

I feel like #Storycraft on #SecondWind is kind of underrated. This is a really interesting interview with the duo behind #BlackTabbyGames on creating interactive storylines that makes NPCs feel like real people and not just resources used in a puzzle:

Reading #WatershipDown. El-Ahrairah help me, poor bunnies. :neofox_sob: (not gonna stop reading tho)

Started re-reading Sebald's "Rings of Saturn" and was reminded how much it changed my life and how much it is still changing my life.

"10. I hope that by reading this manual, you will be thoroughly encouraged to become a farmer."
-- Meti's Sword Manual, but also should be appended to most technical documentation and probably many legal texts too.

Oh no, I lost my bookmark for #KillSixBillionDemons, so now I *have* to read it from the beginning if I want to pick it up again. Which I very much want to do. :oh_no:

Just finished listening to #EpithetErased - Prison of Plastic, and heck, what an emotional ride.
It balances the silly over the top anime inspired theme with a grounded exploration of family issues, and a lot of "awwww" moments.
And the great voice acting, soundtrack, and sound effects add a lot to the immersion.
I might still get the e-book for the illustrations, but the #audiobook is definitely worth the extra muniez.

Lavery's _Something That May Shock and Discredit You_ has been a joy to read as a medieval studies nerd.
```
LADY BERTILAK: whatcha kissin'
GAWAIN: hm? oh nothing
LADY BERTILAK: let's make out
```Nothing has ever summed up that poem so succinctly in all my years of reading its various translations. Highly recommend reading the whole thing. #theLibrary #transliterature #queer #medievalstudies

Aaa, Gray Folie, the author of #DropOut , has a newer #webcomic called #FreshMeat , and it's also very good and!! it does have transcripts!! and official ones at that!! And they seem to be well written and everything. UwU
