Es justo cuando La Bestia se debate entre la vida y la muerte, y Avenant se encuentra intentando acceder al tesoro, cuando da lugar a la doble transformación.
Avenant es castigado por su actitud y egoísmo, transformándolo en la bestia que siempre ha demostrado que es. -
Durante toda la película él no se mueve más que para dar rienda suelta a sus instintos. Primero a su obsesión con tener a Belle, después a su deseo por el tesoro que tiene La Bestia.
Y es justamente esto lo que le lleva a su "caída". -
Belle sí se siente atraída hacia él y, es más, habría aceptado su oferta de matrimonio si no fuera por su situación familiar.
¿Pero por qué Cocteau creó a este personaje que no aparece en el material original? Para hacer mayor hincapié en la transformación hombre/bestia y bestia/hombre. -
Él es el pretendiente de Belle, el epítome de la masculinidad (en muchas ocasiones nociva, ya que su personaje está pensado para ser, al mismo tiempo, el contrapunto de La Bestia y su "sombra").
Una de las cosas más interesantes de todo es que ella SÍ le desea. -
Uno de los mayores aciertos de la maravillosa versión de #thebeautyandthebeast de Cocteau es el personaje de Avenant y como, gracias a él, consigue crear un último hilo de unión dentro de la película que acaba por cerrar un "círculo".
