  1. shj.org/new-siddur-for-humanis

Very excited that I recently got my copy of this siddur. My friend Martin Di Maggio has done an incredible job with it.

I hope to share more reflections on it in the coming days as I have the chance to dive deep into it, but I will say for now three things:

    1. The book itself is not only easy to read, but it is beautiful. I really like how the pages are laid out.
    2. Many of the non-theistic liturgical selections are crafted in such a way that they work with the traditional melodies we know.
    3. There is a good bit of #Sephardic influence in this siddur, which is a welcome change.

  7. Berukhah At Shekhinah

The feminine name of God, expounded upon in the rabbinic era and then by the Kabbalists in extensive literature on the feminine attributes of the divine.

    Blessed are you, Sacred Source,
You who unfolds time and space, dancing with us in the work of creation, we offer this humble prayer:

Compassionate Source, please help us heal our country...

  8. "You don’t insert deeds or prayer into the divine vending machine and genuinely expect to get exactly the candy you’re hoping for, do you?

Sure, it's a tempting line of thought, especially if you're having a good hair day and happen to be economically stable and able-bodied: If I pray just the right prayer in just the right way, I will be granted this parking spot and this life partner or be deemed exempt from cancer or mass shootings because the Big Skydaddy has decided that I'm Good™️."

  9. "Dardashti was in Toronto at the famed Ashkenaz Festival, performing songs from her groundbreaking recent album, “Monajat.”

The collection of Persian-style Selichot prayers mixes Dardashti’s present-day vocals with samples of recordings of her late grandfather, Younes Darsdashi, who had been a famous singer in Iran in the 1950s and ’60s.

“Monajat” is the latest stop on a journey that began more than 10 years ago, when Dardashti began exploring the legacy of her grandfather. Younes, known as “the Nightingale of Iran,” was so famous that he sang at the palace of the Shah and had a weekly radio show in the country in the years before the Jewish community mostly fled in the wake of Israel’s independence in 1948 and the Islamic revolution of 1979."

  11. youtube.com/watch?v=lMms_B2edL

Very excited to share this full concert by #ElianaLight, a powerful liturgist and musician.

I also had the joy of participating in her "Prayer Unbound" at the #Unyeshiva (the school ran by the #JudaismUnbound folks).

Lastly --- I will mention for my Humanistic Jewish friends - that while her music does focus a lot on the idea of "God" (or rather as she would say "G?d") she does it in a very unconventional way.
