Manchmal gelingt es frühmorgens den #Tau im #Sonnenlicht im Bild einzufangen, aber meist geht etwas Brillianz verloren. Außerdem habe ich meist auch einen Filter auf dem #Objektiv.

Cancer guns, on my mark... FIRE!

Bart De Strooper presented at the Copenhagen AD/PD-conference an excellent sketch of the three main inflection points in the pathophysiological evolution of Alzheimer's disease, https://www.alzforum.org/news/conference-coverage/big-picture-three-inflection-points-mark-amyloid-cascade
My own transition from amyloid plagues to p-tau and tangles was retarded by a four years' anti-amyloid therapy in a clinical reaearch project during 2017-22 (aducanumab). Sadly, the most probable explanation for my rapidly worsening cognitive problems may indeed be the tau-tangles, which I somehow avoided earlier. I know there are experimental therapies around somewhere for those gremlins too, but sadly not within my own reach. With respect to my AD, I'm afraid, it's "too late, my friend".
I encourage anybody with a slowly lethal disease to keep mentally in touch with it as long as you can. That's what we human beings were made for. 🤗

Which is why ten is such a bloody silly choice for a number system base. We should be using sixty and/or twelve!
And don't get me started on our use of c/d instead of c/r to describe the fundamental circle constant!

With the #riptide done it’s time to finish those #pathfinders. I mean, I started on them around last Christmas. But I’m also thinking about what’s next for my #tau army. It needs proper leadership, so I’ll need Shadowsun. But I’ve also been eyeing the (pretty good) stats of the Breacher team. I’d need a Devilfish then, for rapid deployment. Maybe just as well go for the combat patrol. 🤔 Ideas? Advice? #warhammercommunity #Warhammer40k #wh40k #MiniaturePainting #PaintingWarhammer #Warhammer #wip
-
I’m done! Transfers, drones, base and all. Sharing some final pictures. This was a fun project, and a great addition to my growing army. I’m particularly happy with how the glow effects turned out, since it was my first attempt at OSL, but I also see tons of room for improvement. Saving that for a future stormsurge. 😆 #riptide #tau #warhammercommunity #Warhammer40k #wh40k #MiniaturePainting #PaintingWarhammer #warhammer #thegreatergood
-
I’m actually quite happy with how this turned out, all in all. Sure, some things could be improved, but overall I think it looks good, I had fun, and I got to test some new techniques, specifically dip my toe in OSL for the first time. Also, I still have transfers, the base and drones to go. Now, where are those Ultramarines so I can convince them of the rightness of the greater good… #riptide #tau #warhammercommunity #Warhammer40k #wh40k #MiniaturePainting #PaintingWarhammer #Warhammer #wip
-
First try, and this did not turn out the way I imagined. Glad I only tried it out on parts of the shield. I’ll basepaint over and try again. And this time I’ve actually read a little about glazing, so I’ll use lahmian medium instead of water to thin the paint down. Any other tips or suggestions are welcome! Where (other than the water) did this go wrong? #riptide #tau #warhammercommunity #Warhammer40k #wh40k #MiniaturePainting #PaintingWarhammer #Warhammer #wip
-
I can’t really tell if I’m happy or unhappy with this so far. I think it hinges very on the next steps where I’ll try to make a glow effect from the blue-white light emanating from inside the shield. I have this idea in my head about how I want it to look, or the effect I want to create, but I might not have the painting skills to pull it off in a convincing way. Fun to try though. #riptide #tau #warhammercommunity #Warhammer40k #wh40k #MiniaturePainting #PaintingWarhammer #Warhammer #wip
-
I still have the base, the shield arm (I have an idea for that one) and transfers to go, but the #riptide is coming along nicely. Now that the ruins are done as well I have a 1000p battle with the 12yo’s ultramarines planned that I’m looking forward to. #tau #warhammercommunity #Warhammer40k #wh40k #MiniaturePainting #PaintingWarhammer #Warhammer #wip

Burning light of the emperor, you say? Well, have a taste of the burning light of the Greater Good! #wip ion accelerator glow for the #riptide (which btw just received a very welcome strength bump with the latest balance dataslate) #tau #warhammercommunity #Warhammer40k #wh40k #MiniaturePainting #PaintingWarhammer #Warhammer
-
I blame all the ruins being built for the slow progress on the #riptide , but now at least everything below the waistline is done, and I’m putting base layers on the torso. Trying to do something with those pathfinders in between as well. #tau #warhammercommunity #Warhammer40k #wh40k #MiniaturePainting #PaintingWarhammer #Warhammer #wip

Calling it for tonight! I’m saving shading and edge highlighting for tomorrow, as well as some details I want in retributor. I like the way this is heading! Also, the remaining pathfinders are slowly getting there as well (in the background). Problem is, they’re not as fun to work on as the #riptide. 😄 #tau #warhammercommunity #Warhammer40k #wh40k #MiniaturePainting #PaintingWarhammer #Warhammer #wip

Battlesuits incoming! Newest addition to the army is a #Riptide and with it I’m finally at 1000 points. Planning on testing it in my first 1000 point battle tomorrow or the day after. #tau #warhammercommunity #Warhammer40k #wh40k #MiniaturePainting #PaintingWarhammer #Warhammer #wip

[Follow up] "Shin Bet and university, university and Shin Bet. What does that remind me of?" ...
Prof. Idan Landau discusses how Israeli academics' collaboration with the state compromises academic freedom and values by facilitating state surveillance and oppression, particularly of Palestinians. This collaboration also normalizes practices reminiscent of dictatorial regimes (e.g., the #Stasi) and makes universities such as Tel Aviv and Bar Ilan complicit in human rights abuses.
From Prof. Landau's 2021 post:
[...] Did you know that secret research is conducted in Israeli universities, under the auspices and for the benefit of the Shin Bet, the results of which are kept at the Shin Bet headquarters and are not open to public review? Again, more slowly: there are people who use the university's research resources for years, receive a doctorate from it with all the tangible and symbolic capital that goes with it, without leaving any documented trace behind, because all their work is absolutely secret? Read, for example, about the mysterious doctorate written by former Shin Bet member, Dr. Nachman Tal, at the University of Haifa, on "Changes in Security Policy towards the Arab Minority 1948-1967," in the Department of the History of the Jewish People at the University of Haifa. How much of the process was a standard academic process? Well: "The Shin Bet set several preconditions. The work will be defined as 'classified.' That is, it will not be published for public review... Towards the date of the examination of the work, the university submitted to the Shin Bet a list of candidates for the position of judges. The Shin Bet disqualified some of them, and others, who were found to have the appropriate security clearance, were approved."
Here are several examples of collaboration between Israeli academia and security services:
- Joint Programs and Investments:
The Shin Bet and Tel Aviv University collaborate to identify start-ups, with TAU Ventures investing $50,000 in each of the six selected start-ups for "acceleration" within a program called The #Xcelerator: Tel Aviv University helps the Shin Bet develop more sophisticated espionage and surveillance technologies"
- University-Security Career Fairs:
Universities allow Shin Bet representatives to attend career fairs as if they were recruitment companies: "All the universities open their gates to Shin Bet representatives who come to 'career meetings' as if they were placement companies in its service."
Transfer of Graduate Information:
Universities provide the Shin Bet with lists of graduates, including names, ID numbers, and contact information: "The universities transfer to the Shin Bet lists with the names of graduates, ID numbers and ways to contact them."
Prof. Landau in fact questions how this aligns with privacy laws, noting the Shin Bet interprets the law to allow them to "receive information for the purpose of fulfilling its role," which they extend to include recruitment: "The law exempts the Shin Bet... and allows the Shin Bet to 'receive information for the purpose of fulfilling its role,' and the Shin Bet interprets this also as information that will help them recruit manpower."
- Secret Research: see opening quote
- Monitoring of Arab Students:
University security departments monitor Arab activists, both on campus and on social networks, with the approval of the administration: "It is well known that in all the campuses the security departments conduct ongoing monitoring of Arab activists, on the ground and also on social networks, and things come to threats and harassment, all with the approval and with the blind eye of the administration."
- Tel Aviv University asking help from the faculty to identify students during the 2011 protests:
"Tel Aviv University then sent a letter to the lecturers in which it asked for their help in identifying and handing over students from their departments (what Stas!i), who participate in protest activities on campus; a video documenting a student demonstration was attached to the letter, in order to make it easier for the lecturers to do the work of informing."
Idan Landau was born in the US, immigrated to Israel in 1969, and served as an IDF officer (1985-1989). He earned degrees from Tel Aviv University and MIT, specializing in generative syntax. A professor of Linguistics at Tel Aviv University since 2023, he has been imprisoned multiple times for refusing to serve in the occupied territories, causing a media controversy in 2011 when his salary was docked for this reason.
