> New tattoo from my designGreat stuff!
Every time I see a Māori person wearing a facial tā moko it makes me heart glad. Especially women wearing moko kauae on their chins, in bold defiance of European capitalism's patriarchal beauty standards.
In the 1990s I defended alternative tattoo culture not only in defence of fundamental freedom of bodily expression, but in the hopes that normalising tattoos would support Māori in reviving these traditions.

Paora Sharples: "Referring to Waititi's mataora as "scribbles" revealed more about the minister's disconnection from his own culture than it did about those who wear it."
