  1. CuSO4 & KCl πŸ”¬ πŸ’Ž βš—οΈ

A pleasant succession of crystal shapes. The star-shaped ones can hardly be discerned at the end.

What else do we see? πŸ”¬

  2. RuCl3 & NaCl in evaporating H2O πŸ’Ž πŸ”¬ βš—οΈ

Fairly small quantities of RuCl3 can produce pitch black aqueous solutions, from which we gradually see crystals of NaCl emerge here.

  3. Rhodium (iii) chloride is a deliquescent substance that forms red aqueous solutions. It is here combined with NaCl. One of the stable phases we may thus afford is Na3RhCl6.

  4. βš—οΈ cyanotype βš—οΈ chemistry βš—οΈ
In cyanotype, we employ K4Fe(CN)6 and a light-sensitive source of Fe(III), to displace K+ and form insoluble prussian blue. Here instead I added an excess of FeCl3β€’7H2O as a moisture-sensitive source of Fe(III). Dark shades of green and blue indeed develop initially, but we then proceed to form something else.

  5. MnCl2β€’5H2O πŸ’Ž in HgCl2(aq). After two days of dissolution and growth due to humidity variations, we're now gradually seeing very neat crystal shapes that develop.

  6. πŸ’Žβš—οΈπŸ§ͺ🧫🌧️ Deliquescent HgCl2 picks up moisture to form a solution. Some CoCl2β€’6H2O also enters and now the moisture content is directly reflected in the color of the solution.
This was filmed on a rainy day with some dry periods, and we see periods of crystal growth (β›…) and periods of crystal dissolution (🌧️) , remodeling the shape of the grains πŸ’Ž.

  7. CuCl2 & LiCl βš—οΈ πŸ§ͺ πŸ’Ž πŸ”¬
anhydrous CuCl2 is a brown substance, which progressively turns green (and then blue) upon pickup of moisture. The CuCl2 we start with here has already developed quite a few green patches and is clearly not as dry as it could have been. Upon addition of highly deliquescent LiCl, we soon recover a brown color. 1/2
