For strategic reasons, Australia needs to have facilities and skills to manufacture electric vehicles and batteries. We already have the resources.On another front, Dutton's keen on nuclear power but silent on where we'll get the fuel. We have uranium resources, but no enrichment industry. I was surprised to learn that even the US gets about a quarter of its enriched fuel for power reactors from Russia.

One of Australia's greatest strategic vulnerabilities is our reliance on imported liquid fuels for transport. According to Geoscience Australia, our solar resource alone is 10,000 times our current energy consumption. Yet governments pander to fossil fuel interests.
