Just followed the #Caturday hashtag and found someone posting about just having finished the #SookieStackhouse books by #CharlaineHarris (which were adapted to TV as #trueblood

It reminded me of how obsessed I got with that series. It seems like a thousand years ago but it was in about 2010

I wrote an essay for #KillYourDarlings at the time about binge-reading vs binge-watching, and what happens when an ongoing series of novels diverges from the TV series that was adapted from them

I also mention #Dexter here, but which other shows have forked from their source material, while both are being created at the same time?

Not 1 but 13, the entire #SookieStackhouse series by #CharlaineHarris. I'd seen the earlier seasons of #TrueBlood on HBO a long time ago. Then I found the first novel in my local charity shop, followed by all the others in time. Couldn't put them down.

Sookie Stackhouse is a much more interesting character in print, meeting vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, demons, fairies, and dealing with them all in her own no-nonsense way.

That year I lived in Bon Temps, LA.

@juergen_hubert That's it? A bit anticlimactic. The werewolf was shagged out after a hard night's hunting and just wanted to play piggyback for a while?

I'm just wondering what the great #CharlaineHarris, author of the #SookieStackhouse novels, would have made of this.

@Nickiquote According to the excellent #CharlaineHarris, in the #SookieStackhouse novels, #Elvis was turned into a vampire by a morgue attendant. Unfortunately, due to all the drugs (topped off by the #Covid shot, no doubt), he came through the process a bit doolally. He goes by the name of Bubba now, gets very upset when people use his old name, and really loves cats. So keep yours safe when he's around. He can still sometimes be persuaded to sing.
