  1. Precision Weighing: The Metric Fixation of 2026

Smart scales now send body fat, bone density, and hydration data to apps. Find out how this affects your health tracking.

  2. Bought my wife a smart scale from Wyze (based on Wirecutter recommendations). The pain in the ass it was to set up in their app and the amount of information needed to was uncomfortable and frustrating — and I was the one doing it.

Not to mention their app is more of a "hub" app for all kinds of "smart" devices of theirs you could connect to. Not what I expected, nor needed. Grumble, grumble.

  4. Tired of your dumb scale just judging you with one number? Engadget's 'best smart scales for 2026' lists devices tracking everything from muscle mass to vascular age. But seriously, how much data do we *really* need from our bathroom scales? And at what privacy cost (looking at you, Eufy's past)?

  5. Started the #SmartScales project yesterday. The 4 pads that double as feet are the load cells which will be connected and a Wheatstone bridge.
Looks to be 2 ways to get the project working.

1). replace the existing PCB with a hx711 board sparkfun.com/products/13879 and connect to a microcontroller, I would probably use a @Raspberry_Pi picow or similar. Would need some more work if I wanted to keep the display working or replace with a different display.

  7. I have been sharing my scale comparison bits here so far. But I decided to make a blog post of it as well. Let's see what the results will be. Two days down, five more to go. 😊
If all goes well, the blog should go live next Monday.
Not sure what the results will prove in the end. They just may still be numbers and all that 😂.
Ah well, it's fun to compare at least...

  8. Day two of my test comparing scales, their weights and other numbers.
I can't Alt text *all* info of some of the images. But I'll do my best to highlight the most important ones (for now).
My watch can't measure weight, so that's just the other numbers that count. There's 3 different scales involved, two at home and one at the gym.

Edit: CW the images due to mention of weights.
