Ok so that was a fun way to round out #SIGCSE2023 - ran over to #TorontoComicCon and got a picture with Karl Urban

Feedback and research collected at #SIGCSE2023 will go into the Curricular Practices version of the paper and the process workbook that is being developed and published with the Computer Science 2023 guidelines from the ACM/IEEE - https://csed.acm.org/curricular-practices-volume-liberal-arts/

Today at #SIGCSE2023, I’ll be presenting on how frameworks from #interdisciplinaryStudies can help us understand #ethics #education in #computing ! Then, this evening, we have a workshop on methods for #teaching #ResponsibleComputing !
So great to see that there are sessions on #computerEthics and #AIethics every day of the conference 😊

Great first day at #sigcse2023 - full-day affiliated event and an evening workshop made for a marathon start... but a lot of fun. I had the opportunity to give the welcome and opening remarks at our Liberal Arts affiliated event.

In general the panel here on “buy in” is bringing up a lot of the barriers to ethics integration in computing classes that we identified in this upcoming #sigcse2023 paper: not enough control over the curriculum, not enough relevant knowledge, poor incentive structures, not enough support, etc. https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3545945.3569855

I like the trend of giving speakers the option to opt-in to conference swag! Both #SIGCSE2023 and #PWC2023 gave me that option this week. (I opted no for both)

I'll be a virtual attendee of both #SIGCSE2023 and #PyconUS this year, since I've got a <1 year old (plus a preschooler) at home. Anyone else joining the virtual party?!

#SIGCSE2023 stats: co-author on 1 accepted paper and 2 accepted posters, around topics of #FP and #Python edu.
Now I have to decide whether to attend in person. Toronto is pretty far away, and my baby will just be ~10 mos old, sooo it feels logistically too hard, and too stressful for my partner. It'd be nice to see people, but I'm thinking it'll be another virtual year for me.
One day I'll attend conferences in person...one day.
