  19. The Estonian Government's argument for opposing the equal pay and pay transparency rules, which were adopted by the Council on 24 April 2023, is not reasonable.

    First, equality and transparency of salaries is not adding further burden.

    Second, Estonia needs to take pay gap more seriously as it has one of the biggest pay gaps in Europe.

    Third, ignoring EU law in such important field affecting lives of people is a mistake.

    The problem needs to be addressed, not ignored.

    PS Commissioners should not be on holidays in times when the EU is facing significant challenges spanning from oil crisis to inequalities.
