Walking in the bush on the farm the other day, movement to one side caught my eye- I walked around to see what was there (thought I saw a #bird landing after initial movement): didn't see anything till I was almost on top of this handsome fellow showing off! #RuffedGrouse Bonasa umbellus -my 1st time seeing one with this rufous colour variation, in display at least, it wouldn't be so obvious otherwise.

Horribly backlit, but I managed to bring out some of the detail in the shadows without making it look too unnatural.

While checking out the woods around the cottage where we were vacationing, I thought I saw a unique tree root in the shape of a bird. There was absolutely no movement whatsoever and as I ventured closer I realized it was a Ruffed Grouse standing perfectly still on a rock.
