Modern rides follow strict #engineering protocols for #design and testing before they ever open to the public. While the risk of injury is statistically low, #safety relies on rigorous mechanical inspections and riders following height and #health #guidelines.

Meteorologist warns 'highly unusual' US winter pattern shift is coming

    Story by Everett Sloane, 2/5/2026

"A sharp, late-season flip in the jet stream is setting up a winter pattern that looks very different from the one that opened the year, and forecasters say it is not business as usual. A leading Meteorologist has described the looming shift as 'highly unusual,' warning that a distorted #PolarVortex and a recharged storm track could rearrange who gets buried in snow and who finally thaws out. The stakes range from #water supplies in the mountains of the western United States to #EnergyDemand and even #wildlife stress in places that are not built for #ArcticAir.

"The core of the coming change is a dramatic reconfiguration of the polar vortex and the jet stream that steers storms across North America. Instead of a simple, locked-in cold pool over the eastern half of the country, forecasters describe a stretched and wobbling circulation that can send frigid air plunging south while allowing pockets of warmth to surge north. One Meteorologist has framed the setup as 'Highly unusual,' noting that winter weather across the United States is about to change in a big way as the upper-level flow reorganizes over the central and eastern states, a shift detailed in a recent analysis. Instead of the gradual, predictable evolution that textbooks once suggested, the atmosphere is pivoting quickly, with cold and warmth trading places in a matter of days."

  7. Next up for the electrolysis tank: This roller coaster upstop wheel from Holiday World's The Raven that I won at a charity auction.

My mom decided I didn't want it anymore (???) and threw it in the drainage ditch across from her house (!!!) where I had to fish it out all rusted.

  8. It's almost the end of this year's gathering. Our final session of talks featured Adam Townsend, who showed us how we can use differential equations to make beautiful moving patterns - you can explore them yourselves at visualpde.com. We also heard from Hannah Gray, who was inspired by playing heardledecades.com to talk about whether men sing more songs (spoiler alert: yes, but it's better now than it was in the 1950s!) Last but absolutely not least, Colin Wright talked about the twist of a Moebius Rollercoaster: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Na #mathsjam #maths #differentialequations #movingpatterns #skittles #uniqueness #moebius #rollercoasters #music #domensingmore

  9. Good old Thunder Express was an Arrow Dynamics steel coaster that operated at @Dollywood from 1989 until 1998.

The ride has been shipped through much of the Midwest during it's lifetime, originally opening at Six Flags St. Louis and currently operating as a hybrid rebuild at Magic Springs Theme Park in Arkansas.

  10. #Starship 🚀 flip maneuver - #Passengers might feel some #disorientation 🤮 during the flip from #horizontal to #vertical, but the stress on their body will not be higher than what they would experience on most #RollerCoasters. #SpaceX might install #rotating seats 💺 in the future to help keep the G forces experienced on the body in only one direction everydayastronaut.com/starship
