This movie was more interesting than I expected. I thought it would basically be a sports / action / SF movie but it was actually more a melancholy art movie.

James Caan gives an unusual performance. Most of his dialogue I simply didn't catch. That's how mumbly he is. But his character is — no pun intended — extremely laid back considering he's the most terrifying Rollerball player ever and considering he's being forced out of the league by corporate overlords.

I am struck by how the only bit of the film Rollerball which hasn’t yet neared reality is the cultural ubiquity of the game itself: the film’s portrayal of the destruction of traditional sources of knowledge with digitised and sanitised information, the rise of hallucinatory AI and the rising power of corporations (and their executives) over governments was at the time satirical (and faintly ridiculous) but now seems painfully prophetic. Here’s the sequence where Jonathan E starts to realise his thirst for knowledge is not going to be satisfied (reducing him back to ‘just’ a sportsman, with only power through violence left to him)…

Printed on an FDM printer in PLA, using a brick-layer POS processing script.

It requires a bit of cleanup with sandpaper, but works well.

Ok pen people, why is dark blue such a hard to find color in #ballpoint and even #rollerball refills? No problem finding it in liquid ink, but even blueblack is hard to find. Kaco used to have dark blue .5mm gel refills on the river, but they’re gone. Monteverde has blueblack in their gel refills, and it’s nice color, but it’s not a nice true dark blue. #pens #fountainpens
