  6. This is rad.

Someone created a proof of concept build that adds #RetroAchievements support to the #MiSTerFPGA!

    github.com/odelot/Main_MiSTer/

It feels like it pushes against the MiSTer ethos, but I don't care. We have save states already, and I love RAs to the point where I've much stopped using my MiSTer because it doesn't have them. Getting them working is a real plus.

There's even early support for hardcore achievements on some cores!

Really hope it makes it into the main branch.

  7. I reworked my #Retroachievements play activity and progress tracker to only account for "Progression" and "Win Condition" achievements. Now I'm feeling a lot more confident about finishing “Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons”. My estimated remaining play time dropped from 25 hours to 5 hours... 😅

  8. Playing some Mr.Driller with #retroachievements on hard mode. Managed to get rank 31 on normal survival mode (USA). Anyone here like to play #mrdriller? #gameboycolor #namco

  9. I built a small progress calculator for #RetroAchievements using their API, and it's showing ~23h to beat LOZ Oracle of Seasons based on my progress speed. Compare that to 18h estimate from "Time to Beat"... this has been accurate to my feelings. I've been loving the @delta_emulator + Pocket Taco + RetroAchievements combination so far :)

  10. I mentioned it a while ago when I played old Tiny Toons games, but I wanna mention it in general, as well:

"RetroAchievements" is a website that basically allows you to collect Achievements / Trophies in old games, before systems got achievement-systems, as long as your used emulator supports it.

I think it's a really fun idea, especially, of course, if you're an achievement hunter:

  11. This last week has been an interesting week.

I can honestly say that the Ganbare Goemon series on the SNES, in its entirety, is absolutely worth playing.

Each game plays differently, but with a sense of familiarity.

Kiteretsu Shogun Magginesu and Kirakira Douchuu have the most similar game flows, but it only in that they are predominantly stage based 2D platformers.

The games get progressively more zany, in the best possible way and escalate in the silliest ways. I'll be doing a bumper presents on the other 3 games I haven't covered because each game deserves so much spotlight on them, and that isn't because I have spent the better part of nearly 48 hours playing these games!

  12. This is probably my biggest achievement of the year.

The majority of that playtime was trying to nail that deathless run. The most annoying thing is, I had to do a 100% Golden Cat run, which i also achieved deathless 🤣

    It is what it is.

I don't recommend any of those kinds of runs for anyone, the game itself is challenging enough that finishing it is an accomplishment in its own right!

    #RetroAchievements

  13. Holy crud. Not going to lie, still shaking.
I was getting ready to give up on this and use save states (i had dropped two at the hardest moments of this run).

This probably took in excess of 12 attempts, and it wasn't even, with each attempt I got further. No. My 2nd attempt got me to stage 8 out of 9 and I fluffed a jump, it took about 5 more attempts before I was able to get back to stage 8. On that run, I fluffed a reasonably easy jump...

Eventually I made it to the stage 8 boss, who, is the biggest challenge as he can kill you in a single hit.

But it is done now, and I can finish off the mastery with some significantly less intense and stressful challenges.

  15. I give it...A week, before my top spot on this high score table is destroyed...

  16. Let's fricking go!

Been waiting for this to crop up for a while now.

Not that I need an excuse to play the MegaDrive Masterpiece that is Quackshot again! 😂

  17. Yesterday I mastered the most "why would you do this" RetroAchievement set yet. I have mastered NSYNC: Get to the Show, a weird mini game collection for the Gameboy Color.

    #retroachievements

  18. Mastered Cruis'n USA was terrible in 1996 and it continues to be terrible in 2026. Fundamentally so many gameplay flaws that suck so much enjoyment from the "racing". I hated every minute of this. I prob should've picked something else but I wanted a quick mastery. Not worth it.

  19. Wasn't expecting to hit 100,000 points before the end of the month...

    But here I am 🤣

    #RetroAchievements

  20. So, I was only going to draw attention to the Achievement set for Enemy Zero for Sega Saturn that is currently in development.

But, y'know, a set for Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure for DS and a revision for Sword of Mana for GBA are also things to be excited about!

I should note as well that Wii games are due to go live in March too!

    #RetroAchievements

  21. So, I wasn't expecting to do this, but as someone else had commented on this game (on RetroAchievements), you do get a little Stockholmed on this game, and whilst there are absolute BS moments where jumping can be a bit funky and you fall immediately to your death.

I still need to do the 1CC on the Raptor levels, which is going to be painful as the Raptor can be a nightmare to control and healing with the Raptor is quite theoretical at best.

Considering how angry this game was making me, being able to achieve this a couple of hours after my first clear of the game fills me with a stupid amount of pride.

    Maybe I should re-do my Let's Play 😅
Though, having the failure fest feels right to me.

  22. Always quite exciting to check over the #RetroAchievements sets currently in developed.

Got some games i am super excited for.

    Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles (Wii)
    Shin Combat Choro Q (PS2)
    Guardian's Crusade (PS1)
    Ghosthunter (PS2)

The first game on that list is the only one I have history with, the others all just look quirky and interesting.
Shin Combat Choro Q gets me super excited! But only because I am on a crusade to play all Choro Q games at some point

  23. So, I have been playing Dynasty Warriors as a bit of an on again, off again thing. It makes for pretty easy, super casual play.

I am aiming for this to be my big 2026 #RetroAchievements conquest this year.

Anyway. Something I did notice and this tickles me, as I look through old GameFAQs on how to unlock the best weapons for each character, as this will be needed when I migrate over to Extreme Legends.

Some characters have it pretty easy, an example is the first one I got Kirin Fang for Xiahou Dun.
It requires a cutscene that is pretty impossible to not trigger on a certain stage, and then defeating an officer you'll probably defeat anyway. It will come about naturally.

Compare that to Yue Ying, who has an entire checklist of things to do on a much harder stage than Xiahou Dun.

It's just kinda funny. I'll get around to that one eventually. He says.

  24. I keep track of all the games I play and assign them a gut-feel rating when I finish them. This allows me to objectively and scientifically announce my Top 5 for 2025. And here it is:

    1) Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast
    2) Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
    3) Ys Seven
    4) Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
    5) Final Fantasy VI Advance

    Gaming science!

In 2025, I finished 29 games. #RetroAchievements and playing games with pals and talking about them continues to be a motivator.

  25. Hang on a moment. Did #RetroAchievements not do a yearly summary email for 2025?

Thank God I kept track of how many games I played and stuff.
I'll be putting together the overview over the next couple of days.

  26. Haha, it is done!
I am actually ridiculously proud of myself!

I still have a tiny bit of work to do on the Zelda Collection. But that is all side quest stuff (all heart pieces, ice arrows, Hyrule Loach, 4th Bottle). But i have managed to completely clear my unbeaten pile before the end of the year.

  27. Get ready for some Halloween Retro Madness with a special VRL RA Race tomorrow, hosted by yours truly and featuring many great streamers and VRL community racers!

  28. So, I'm taking a break from playing horror games for #RetroAchievements as I am also working on those for Spooptober.

I had decided to play something simple, something easy. Something I knew really well.

I settled for #SuperMarioWorld probably Mt earliest gaming memory.

Turns out, RetroAchievements doesn't have a lot of chill, and I decided to do the Mini-Mario vs the World achievements.

Incidentally, the first two and the special worlds were that bad. Some stages gave me grief.

But the final leg, from Chocolate Island to Bowser Front door... I can't remember how many times I restarted, or lives burnt, or how many times I beat Valley of Bowser 2...

Satisfied that part of the challenge is over, now it is just clean up. All the Dragon Coins and hidden one-ups/moons. Should be simple enough, right?

  29. So, the last week or so has been quite the quest to play through as many of the #Aleste games as possible. In fact, as of last night, I finished all the games that are bundled into the Aleste collection that came out on 2020.

Of these, the #GameGear games were my favourite. #GGAleste 1 (Galvanic Gunner, not Game Gear) is a pretty cosy SHMUP, which starts much harder than it ends. In fact I think the first level is the longest, and japes you with a mid boss that could normally be an end stage boss.

You are quite fragile in this game, with no safety blankets unlike later games. One wrong move and your weapon power level drops by one, which can be a slippery slope to game over.

But nothing that a small bit of practice can't solve, or using the D-Weapon which gives you an orbiting projectile that destroys some enemy bullets!

Seriously, this was an absolute joy to play! Even on the harder difficulty setting!

  30. So, on my quest to slay the demons of my gaming past, I am not slaying demons, but #Xenomorphs in the #SNES version of #Alien3

Let me be honest, this game is brutal, and I am amazed I beat the first stage of this game when I was younger as it is... Challenging to say the least. It was so traumatic that the password for level 2 is seared into my mind. The password being QUESTION.

So, clearing a stage requires you to beat several missions on that level, and the missions require you to navigate the maze-like map going to multiple locations, saving prisoners, torching eggs, and repairing things. All the while xenomorphs constantly spawn around you to be a nuisance!

So far I have beaten the first two stages and each stage has taken well over an hour each. This feels like this will be a slog! I am so glad #RetroAchievements is logging my progress on this one!
