Two messages to Rand Paul
This one at the top is from Facebook. The one below is also from Facebook: "You were vaccinated. Multiple times." A Pittsburgh chef fired that at Rand Paul this week, in reply to the senator's post claiming "we all knew infection was the best protection." Paul's post went up Tuesday, the day before he chaired the hearing where Anthony Fauci took the Fifth. He paired it with an AI cartoon of a grinning Fauci getting his shot, under the headline "Did You Get Your Fauci Ouchie?" A sitting […]https://thebluegrassbluespodcast.com/2026/08/01/two-messages-to-rand-paul/

#MitchMcConnell is (probably was ☠️) the most diabolical #hypocrite in #UnitedStates #history.
#RandPaul is such a congenital 🧬 asshole that his normally staid neighbour attacked him and broke several ribs while the ‘Aqua Buddha’ was mowing the grass around his #BasketOfDeplorables 🏡.
And let’s not even bother to mention the cretinous House Oversight Committee Chairman #JamesComer who is on track to become Governor.
I’m starting to think the people of #Kentucky are not very serious people. 🤔

Kentucky’s Two Senators: One Missing, One Investigating
By Cliff Potts, Editor-in-Chief
BAYBAY CITY, Leyte, Philippines — July 31, 2026 — 9:05 p.m. PhSTAs the U.S. Senate devoted national attention to renewed questions surrounding the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic (2019–2023), an unusual political contrast emerged from Kentucky. The state’s senior senator, Mitch McConnell, remained absent from public view while recovering from a serious fall, while its junior senator, Rand Paul, chaired a highly publicized hearing involving former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci. The juxtaposition illustrates how political attention can become concentrated on historical controversies even as contemporary questions remain unresolved (Associated Press, 2026; U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, 2026).
Kentucky’s Absent Senior Senator
Sen. Mitch McConnell, Kentucky’s senior senator since 1985, has been undergoing rehabilitation following injuries sustained in a June 2026 fall. His office has stated that he continues physical therapy and intends to complete his Senate term, but his prolonged absence from Capitol Hill and from public political events has generated continuing questions regarding his health and ability to fulfill the responsibilities of elected office (Associated Press, 2026).
Those questions are not merely personal. Every state is represented by two senators, and when one becomes largely absent for an extended period, the practical burden of public representation shifts significantly to the remaining member.
Rand Paul Returns to a Familiar Battle
Kentucky’s junior senator, Rand Paul, has spent years criticizing Dr. Anthony Fauci over the federal response to COVID-19. Their public disagreements began during the pandemic, particularly over federal research funding, pandemic restrictions, and scientific testimony presented before Congress.
On July 29, 2026, Paul chaired a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing in which Fauci appeared under subpoena. Rather than answer substantive questions, Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. During the proceedings, Fauci’s attorney repeatedly attempted to address the committee without recognition and was ordered removed from the hearing room after repeated interruptions (U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, 2026).
The confrontation quickly became one of the most widely reported political events of the day.
A Pandemic Revisited
The COVID-19 pandemic began in late 2019 and rapidly spread across the globe during 2020, fundamentally altering governments, economies, healthcare systems, and daily life. In the United States, Fauci became one of the most visible scientific advisers during President Donald Trump’s first administration.
Although Fauci served as a leading public-health adviser, authority over pandemic policy was divided among the White House, federal agencies, state governments, and local officials. Nevertheless, Fauci became a symbolic figure for both supporters and critics of pandemic-era policies.
The July 2026 hearing represented another chapter in a political conflict that has continued long after the public-health emergency itself subsided.
Accountability and Public Attention
The timing of the hearing presents an observation that future historians may find significant.
While Kentucky’s senior senator remained largely absent from public view because of ongoing rehabilitation, its junior senator became one of the nation’s most visible investigators, directing congressional attention toward decisions made during the COVID-19 pandemic—a global public-health emergency that began in late 2019, reached the United States in early 2020, and dominated public life through 2021 and beyond.
The renewed inquiry was unfolding in July 2026, more than six years after the first major U.S. outbreak, while immediate questions remained about McConnell’s health, extended absence, and present ability to represent Kentucky in the Senate.
Whether by design or circumstance, the Fauci hearing had the practical effect of redirecting national media attention away from those contemporary questions. Throughout his Senate career, McConnell became known for procedural strategy, agenda control, and careful management of political timing. Whether the 2026 hearing reflected ordinary congressional oversight, selective accountability, or a broader pattern of political obfuscation will ultimately be left for historians to determine.
Preserving the Record
Archives exist not to decide history but to preserve it.
The documented facts establish that one Kentucky senator was largely absent while recovering from injury, the other was conducting one of the Senate’s most visible hearings, and that hearing revisited events that began during the COVID-19 pandemic more than six years earlier.
Those relationships are matters of chronology rather than opinion. Their long-term historical significance will depend upon evidence that has yet to emerge.

It's an interesting choice on Rand Paul's part to remind us of the absolute shit show of 2020 made so much worse by Trump's and the GOP's mismanagement of public health agencies.

Public servants in the USA watching the Fauci show trial and wondering what the fucking point of serving America is when it elects this trash to run the place into the ground...
...and the Media going along with it as well, why devote your life to public service when a bunch of quacks, gangsters and rapists will shit all over your work and claim you're the Devil.
A foul display

@mattblaze Congenital asshole #RandPaul was lucky Dr. #Fauci pleaded his #5thAmendment rights when he was when badgered by credulous cretin from #Kentucky.
Rand ‘Aqua Buddha’ Paul wasn’t so lucky when his neighbour get fed up with living next to a #BasketOfDeplorables. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/neighbor-who-attacked-sen-rand-paul-was-upset-over-yard-debris-documents-say

@PBSNewsHour @headlines-PBSNewsHour So #SenatorPaul is going to hold Fauci in contempt for . . . exercising his Constitutional rights? 🤨
Well, #RandPaul has now met all the conditions to get his #MAGA card and decoder ring 🙄
What an #asshole

Rand Paul is yet another twisted fuck

@meidastouch Good thing Anthony #Fauci pleaded his #5thAmendment rights when pestered by the congenital asshole #RandPaul.
If Rand ‘Aqua Buddha’ Paul’s neighbour had been so patient, he would have avoided arrest for beating the crap out of the (living) #Kentucky Senator. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/neighbor-who-attacked-sen-rand-paul-was-upset-over-yard-debris-documents-say

CW: USPOL
Some people seem legitimately surprised #Fauci pleaded the Fifth. It seemed pretty obvious the whole point in having him testify was to entrap him. Comments made by #RandPaul and others leading up to the hearing made it obvious. They were planning on throwing him in prison for the rest of his life if they asked him what time it was and his watch was off by a minute. Since Biden already pardoned him for anything in the pre-Trump era, something "new" is all they have.

Living next to a #BasketOfDeplorables can be dangerous: https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/pontiac-man-charged-killing-neighbor-raping-victims-wife-daughter
In less extreme cases, it can be frustrating as hell, leading *you* to be sent to prison! https://www.foxnews.com/politics/neighbor-who-attacked-sen-rand-paul-was-upset-over-yard-debris-documents-say
#RandPaul is a congenital asshole. Good thing #AnthonyFauci kept his cool and pleaded his #5thAmendment rights today!
The #Fauci hearing in the #DoNothingCongress will do *nothing* about the #affordability crisis, the #ClimateCrisis , or the floundering #FelonsCrusade in #Iran.

The United States is a very sick nation. So much quackery, it's ingrained in the culture over there.

How many of his co-workers did he bump off? Should we give him a medal for that one?

I find it fascinating that many Republicans and their MAGA followers have switched from "Nobody died from COVID. It was their co-morbidities that killed them." To "Dr. Fauci killed millions."

The hearing is over. Sen #RandPaul said the committee would vote next week on whether to hold Dr. #Fauci in #contempt for his refusal to testify [nope, that is a constitutional right you ignorant prick]. He delivered a dark closing statement, asking of Fauci, “Did his actions lead to the largest man-made plague in history?” Then Paul closed the hearing. Fauci walked out, stone-faced & necessarily escorted by police due to all the threats he faces because of charades like this.
-
#RandPaul has been taunting Dr. #Fauci on Twitter all week, & Fauci’s conservative critics have been ridiculing him over diary entries that focus on his own fame & relationships with celebrities.
Peter Staley, a longtime AIDS activist & close friend of Dr. Fauci’s, said he kept the diary to help write a memoir, which he was already drafting when the #pandemic hit. It was published in 2024. Staley said the personal observations reflect Fauci being “astonished at what was happening in his life.”
-
Over the weekend, #RandPaul released >1,100 pages of Dr. #Fauci’s typewritten personal diary without saying how he got them. On Tuesday, “Health” Secy #RFKJr said he gave the documents to Paul & another [crazy] #Republican, Sen #RonJohnson of Wisconsin, “so they could see the light of day.”

Mr. Schertler, Dr. #Fauci’s lawyer, said in statement that he believes that exchange “triggered” #RandPaul’s crusade against his client. But he did not deliver the statement, because Paul refused to let him speak. Sen #RichardBlumenthal, #Democrat of Connecticut, read parts of the statement into the record.
“The accusations that Chairman Paul continues to propagate are false & disgraceful,” the statement said, “& we will examine all options to hold him accountable.”
-
The top #Democrat on the panel, Senator #GaryPeters of Michigan, accused #RandPaul of waging a politically-motivated inquiry to “basically legitimize a predetermined conclusion that was reached years ago.”
Dr. #Fauci & Mr. Paul have been tangling with one another for years. In 2021, when the senator accused Dr. Fauci of lying while testifying before the #Senate, Dr. Fauci replied, “If anybody is lying here, senator, it is you.”

Senator #RandPaul accuses Dr. #Fauci of funding research in China that sparked the #pandemic, & then lying about it to #Congress — outrageous accusations Dr. Fauci vehemently denies.
In a brief opening statement, Dr. Fauci noted that he had testified before Congress more than 200 times during the 38 years he ran the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases [ #NIAID ], including during the #Covid pandemic.

Early in the hearing, #RandPaul warned that there would be “repercussions” for Dr. Fauci’s refusal to testify, & then ordered the REMOVAL of his lawyer‼️, David Schertler, when he tried to speak up on his client’s behalf. The hearing, unusual even by the #Senate’s recent hyperpartisan standards, also featured #ConspiracyTheories & personal attacks, with #Republicans taunting Dr. #Fauci as a megalomaniac & a liar.

Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, who spent nearly four decades as the government’s top #InfectiousDisease expert, refused on Wednesday to answer any questions from a #Senate committee investigating the origins of #Covid19. Dr. #Fauci accused the committee’s #Republican chairman, #RandPaul, of having an “unhinged obsession with me,” before repeatedly invoking his #FifthAmendment right not to incriminate himself.
