Here's an aspect of political polls I've never heard anyone talk about; the performative nature of poll responses.
There's a big difference between being asked which party's policy we like most for a poll, and voting in an election. Poll respondents can be totally honest about their political views, without any need to consider the implications for forming a government post-election. It completely removes any strategic considerations from the decision.

Once again, I'm going to have a bitch about how the reporting of political polls never includes the undecideds. Instead, they report a poll with a party at 30%, and a subsequent 1 that puts them at 35%, as if their support has risen 5%. But if the percentage of undecideds has changed between polls, that's wrong.
This means we can't meaningfully compare 2 polls from the same pollster, let alone polls as a whole. Its skews the Poll of Polls, and the graphs here;
