Blitz Talker is a hard boiled detective who comes from a terrifying cyberpunk world where he and another detective at the Flashlight Detective Office do their best to set things right.
When he is pulled into the real world, he first agrees it should be destroyed for placing himself and other fictional characters in such dire stakes for others' amusement, but his creator knows him so well that she's able to deftly convince him to help save the world instead of destroy it.

Concerts in the Macross universe are, naturally, out of this world! Nothing in real life comes close!
Using a combination of giant displays, holograms, robotics, and her own person, Sheryl Nome puts on one of her exciting, slightly risqué pop/rock concerts for the populace of the Macross Frontier colony ship. Even the main stage is projected at full scale in multiple locations in the amphitheater so everyone in the wrap-around audience has a great view!

Symphogear GX is dang good. As the show's third season, it balances a larger cast of six heroines against a new world-ending threat.
It features a dangerous cast of enemies, a rollercoaster of a plot filled despair and awe in equal measure, and a surprisingly hard hitting message of providing forgiveness to those very much in the wrong.
Add in the series' normal bevy of action sequences, mid combat songs, and absurdly cute moments, and the season really hold up well!

When her second year rolls around she is chosen by the Giraffe (the spirit embodiment of stageplay audiences) to compete in a magical winner take all competition where she could steal the her friend's talent.
Highly talented but possessing a kind soul, Banana initially refuses.

With knowledge from the future, Diva, an artificially intelligent theme park songstress, was able to pull off the rescue of an important assemblyman and make a daring escape saving both her and her time traveling companion Matsumoto, currently occupying a stuffed bear, from armed terrorists and a collapsing building.
Finally, after much squabbling between them, they agree to formally work together to both save humanity and make sure Diva will have people to sing to.

I love #RevueStarlight so much!
Yes, you have to be receptive to its odd mix of acting school and magical, metaphorical, musical theater stage battles... but if you are, the #anime and the followup movie are something very special.
The cinematography on display in the movie is routinely breathtaking! Take this first fight where Nana Daiba (Banana) is trying to beat it into her fellow actresses heads that one good or bad performance or production is not an end but a beginning!

For Tsubasa Kazanari, going back on stage means more than she can express after the tragedy that proved to be the last concert of her partner Kanade Amou.
FLIGHT FEATHERS, the new song Tsubasa sings as a now solo act, is one of remembrance and miracles in tribute to Kanade's heroic sacrifice.
This concert, interspaced with Tsubasa's new rookie partner Hibiki battling nearby monsters so Tsubasa could have her moment of restoration, is one of my favorites!

In Vivy -Flourite Eye's Song-, the advancement of humanoid AI doesn't always go well for humanity or the AIs they create. The show follows the first fully independent AI, a songstress named Diva, as she uses knowledge brought to her from the future to alter multiple key events that lead to an apocalyptic AI uprising.
One such event revolves around a shy, struggling AI android singer named Ophelia whose timid, insecure nature hides a much darker tragedy.

Tuesday Simmons and Carole Stanley sneak into the stunning Mars Immigration Memorial Hall to play their first co-written song together.
"The Loneliest Girl" is a sad, slow number dominated by Carole's piano with the accompanying strums and squeak of Tuesday's guitar creating a solid, organic foundation for the two's heartfelt emotional lyrics.
The pair's longing ache for connection is what brought them together in the first place and it's what drives their debut song.

Although Kaoru's mother and grandmother were both popular Kouka Revue actresses, Kaoru herself struggled to get into the incredibly restrictive Kouka School of Musical and Theatrical Arts. It took her all three of her allowed attempts.
Kaoru was one of my favorite characters in Kageki Shojo!! because of the way her story defied expectations. Many thought she was being forced into acting when that wasn't the case!

The push and pull between these two doesn't get enough recognition. Sheryl's strength and insecurities along with her progressing illness are matched by Alto's steadfast "with you till the end" nature and the way he is one of the few people that treats her as an actual person, often butting heads with her, rather than treating her as glamorous perfect pop idol most see her as.

Where the other stage girls at Seisho Academy have their entrances accentuated by brilliant spotlights, Nana's enters with discordant music and focused laser light.

One of the core themes of Revue Starlight is that a stage actress may lose an audition or miss out on a role, but with passion and hard work, they can try again to claim their place in the spotlight.

When Kaoruko Hanayagi and Futaba Isurugi bicker and fight, they do so with the drama and stagecraft between them maxed out!
Here, they stand opposite each other, flanked by huge, brightly lit Dekotora, each adamant in their point of view.
Kaoruko wishes them to return home and head her family's traditional Japanese dance company. Futaba wishes them to continue on to a full musical theater troupe.
Will the Selfish Highway they both travel split them apart for good?!

Claudine Saijo to Maya Tendo after their successful performance of "Starlight" during their musical theater class' 1st year. Maya played the top role, while Claudine came in 2nd, but she wasn't going to rest until she can surpass her rival.
Interestingly, Maya isn't offended by Claudine's renewed challenge. In fact, she soon uses the other actress' continued passion for the top spot as a teaching opportunity for others, like the wayward Karen Aijo.

Shirase Kobuchizawa is surrounded by her friends at the future site of a civilian-run Antarctic stellar observatory named after her mother.
It was a long journey for the four high school girls who tagged along on this research expedition to A Place Further than the Universe, and, for Shirase, at least one sorely needed key cathartic moment remains, but even just making it this far was quite an accomplishment!

So warm, yet lonely.
While most members of the Kitauji High School's concert orchestra are still sleeping after a hard day of band camp practice, Asuka Tanaka is up in the early morning hours far from the others practicing a song on her euphonium that's very special to her.
That song is important to Asuka's complex character, to the junior band members who come after her, and to the Sound! Euphonium franchise as a whole. We hear it again and again in key moments.

Yun Arikawa, a young, do-it-all engineer who works with AI and robotics, and Mei Kamino, a graduate student specializing in quantum mechanics and mythology combine their specialties to help save the world from higher dimensional monsters, including one the military dubs "Godzilla", yet they barely ever meet!
Godzilla: Singular Point may be my favorite take on the giant monster. It's got great action and fun characters, but is also unabashedly nerdy in all the right ways!

Revue Starlight is such a beautiful #anime. You can pause just about anywhere and use it as a desktop background. Might be why I have 239 and counting from the show and movie! But out of all of them, this twice used victory animation by Karen Aijo is perhaps my absolute favorite frame.
Karen's pose is iconic and cartoony, and the rich background curtain cloth textures, gleaming effects off her sword, and the sharp contrasts of light and shadow are all… dazzling.

Cinnabar's is a sad story, however, as its patrols are pointless. The gems enemies have never once come during the night in 3000+ years. Cinnabar's mercury is also the one thing that can permanently harm its fellow gems making its night patrol a forced exile.

Karen Aijo closes her eyes and covers her ears as her aunt Maki tempts her to break a promise she made to her childhood friend Hikari Kagura back when they were kindergartners.
Karen and Hikari agreed to both become musical theater actresses and star in their favorite stage play, Starlight, together even though Hikari was moving away to London. Until then, they were to have no back and forth contact. It's a promise Karen is determined to cling to.

I had 282 Revue Starlight screenshot in my #anime desktops folder yet somehow I never took a picture of when Karen Aijo first zoomed onto the Stage of Fate!?
That has now been fixed.
Perhaps I’ll rewatch the series and take even more shots.
