Things have been going well between traveling merchant Kraft Lawrence and minor harvest god Holo the Wise Wolf. They'd overcome trading houses and smugglers and were now rather lovey-dovey... until another merchant and a shocking truth came between them.
Lawrence finds himself in a crowd trying to make a desperate play to crash a short sold decorative pyrite market in order to stop the fellow merchant from having the funds to purchase Holo from him!

I can't believe I only discovered the soundtrack from #MushokuTensei today. The story of that show definitely had/has its flaws, but the music is good. It's almost like a mix between the adventure soundtrack from #SousouNoFrieren and the "medieval European" one from #SpiceAndWolf. It's also written by the same person who made the great soundtrack of #LandOfTheLustrous. I already know I will be listening to this a lot :blobcatheadphones:

Was a Spice and Wolf remake really necessary? No. Instead of Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf, I would have rather gotten Spice and Wolf III covering Volume 4 in a flashback.

The original Spice and Wolf anime skipped the Legend of the Pagan Gods arc because it wasn't going to complete the series. Since Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf intends to adapt the entire thing, this arc is important.

The only real difference between Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf and the old Spice and Wolf anime is that the new one covers Volume 4 instead of skipping it. It also doesn't cover Volume 5, but the next season will.

I started watching #SpiceAndWolf last night and I looked up the main male protagonists' age and supposedly he's 25?? But he has white hair and a beard so he looks like an old man? And apparently he eventually has romance with the wolf girl, who is supposedly eons old, but she's in the form of a teenage girl, so it still feels a little uncomfortable. If the guy - had been an old man, that would have been quite the reversal of the "really old but it's not pedo because they look young" trope that you so often see in vampire and fantasy stuff like Twilight, both gender swap and making the human old too... But even at 25, he's at least an adult, so there's no actual dating of children. Also it's set in a medieval setting, where people only lived to like 30 years old anyway 😅

Someone mentioned that Holo from Spice and Wolf is like a reverse Frieren in that she absolutely understands the importance of the moment, and doesn't think long term at all. Yolo drunk hangover Holo.
I just double checked and the entire first novel series happens in about 100-ish days in story-time.
That's surprisingly short, and it felt like the story took way longer.

Watching the empty roads of #SpiceAndWolf reminds me of the peace during the COVID lockdowns when the roads and malls were empty, compared to the crowded chaos now. :neocat_cry:
I need to find somewhere to touch grass where there aren't crowds, or people walking dogs. I like the friendly doggos tho, just not the scary barking.

This is the song used for the OP of Spice and Wolf (2024). I'm more of a fan of the ED song but this is hitting the right marks for me. There is some instrument in there that simulates a bird call. Not sure what it is but it adds a bit of magic. And there's this drop in the music, a slight pause and return. I like it.
