Sit the kids down with Finding Nemo downstairs, and enjoy a cocktail with a expansive view in peace upstairs. The Pacific Parlour car is not to be mistaken for a Superliner, it is truly a former Santa Fe Budd Hi-Level. A vestige of the more elegant age of rail that was in use until 2018 by Amtrak on the Coast Starlight service from Los Angeles to Seattle.
I was fortunate to ride it, and the people were so lovely on this train and the couches so comfortable. It was a place conducive to relaxing and meeting people. An extrovert train lovers garden.
I miss it.

🇫🇷 Un petit quiz pour terminer ce weekend.
Cet engin présenté hier aux ateliers CFL à Luxembourg permet de tracter des engins moteurs (locomotives et automotrices), il est équipé d'un compresseur pour fournir de l'air pour le freinage de la rame ou de la machine, lesté de 16 tonnes et fonctionne sur batteries 100 % électrique donc. C'est un véhicule rail-route et comme on peut le voir est équipé pour remorquer des automotrices munies de l'attelage intégral "Scharfenberg" ou l'attelage standard (crochet).
La question est : combien de tonnes peut tirer ce petit engin?

This vehicle presented yesterday at the CFL workshops in Luxembourg makes it possible to tow motor vehicles (locomotive and EMUs), it is equipped with a compressor to provide air for braking the Locomotive or the EMU, weighted by 16 tonnes and operates 100% electric on batteries. It is a road-rail vehicle and as we can see is equipped to tow EMU equipped with the "Scharfenberg" coupler or the standard hook.
The question is: how many tons can this little machine pull?

🇫🇷 La visite des ateliers des CFL à Luxembourg-Bonnevoie était :
* tip top au niveau organisationel
* hyper intéressante même pour l'amateur aguerri et cheminot que je suis.
* L'occasion de voir que les CFL, malgré leur petite taille sont une entreprise publique performante, innovante, à la pointe et efficiente, n'en déplaise aux chantres néo-libéraux de l'UE et leurs discours que seule la libéralisation peut apporter du bon sur le rail en Europe.
Ainsi, tout au long de la journée, on a pu regarder les trains droit dans les yeux, sous leurs jupes et au coeur de la salle des machines. Ce ne sont que trois photos de la grosse centaine réalisée. Je tâcherai de faire un article de blog plus détaillé et publierai d'autres photos plus tard.En outre, quelques "goodies" et un support pour smartphone qui est aussi un coussinet anti-stress gagné à la "roue de la fortune" en plus d'un bon d'achat de 5 EUR pour le Cactus Shoppi en gare.
Bref, une chouete journée à l'écart du smartphone et des réseaux et des échanges entre humains, ça fait du bien aussi de temps en temps!

* tip top at the organizational level
* super interesting even for the old amateur and railway worker that I am.
* The opportunity to see that the CFL, despite their small size, is a high-performance, innovative, at the top of the technology and an efficient public company, even if the neo-liberals at the EU say that a liberalized market can bring good things to the rail in Europe.
Thus, throughout the day, we were able to look the trains straight in the eye, under their skirts and in the heart of the engine room. These are just three photos of the hundred or so taken. I will try to do a more detailed blog post and post more photos later.In addition, some "goodies" and a smartphone holder which is also an anti-stress ball won at the "wheel of fortune" in addition to a 5 EUR voucher for the Cactus Shoppi (a shop at the station).
In short, a nice day away from smartphones and networks and with lots of exchanges between humans, a good thing too!

A remarkable array of VIA Rail rolling stock in the year 2026. A Genesis P42 leading 40 year old LRC Economy and Business cars of differing liveries, and a Budd Bonus of a stainless steel business car from 1954 still earning its keep in 2026 on the corridor.

All abord! The Renaissance Sleeper carries you between Halifax and Montreal on VIA Rail. The sleeper has a storied history, first being built for an overnight London-Paris train. It ended up here, and is the most British piece of rolling stock plying North America. No where else do you get such narrow side corridors!

A cozy comfy place to cross the country. The VIA Rail Canadian has this observation lounge car at the end of the train. It's the best place on the train to share drinks, make new friends, and take in the countryside
Also note: This train is over 70 years old, and this is the interior in the 2020s, looks good for 70!
