  1. @tess The concern is that with the current system good posts get promoted and the author gets credit. This is the way you build engagement. If the quote booster is the post that goes viral then the original author doesn't really get credited for their work. Popular accounts would have the potential to drown out smaller accounts, whereas now popular accounts promote good posts by smaller accounts. This could really impact the way Mastodon works.

  2. @tess One aspect of quote boosting, that should get attention is how boosts are tallied. This may seem like a minor point, but when you boost a post the post's original author gets the boost, and people can see how popular the post is based on the number of people who boost it. With quote boosts, who gets the boost credit? The original author or the booster, who may just type "read this...".

  3. We are against #quoteBoosting or #quoteTooting, or whatever. Fediverse grew in popularity because it was different. It was not a #timeSink either.

    Not feeling the pressure to add to the conversation when sharing was a breath of fresh air for us, moving to fedi.
