  1. Most executive communications strategies I've reviewed focus heavily on messaging frameworks, channel selection, and cadence. All important. But here's what's consistently missing:

    Positioning.

Not the organization's positioning -- the leader's own.

Over the course of countless conversations with executives across industries, one pattern stood out: very few leaders had invested serious time defining the space they wanted to own in the minds of their audiences. They could articulate company strategy with precision. They could speak to quarterly targets. But when asked, "What do you want to be known for?" the answers were often vague, reactive, or borrowed from the corporate brand.

That gap is where I see the biggest untapped opportunity right now.

We're operating in an AI-saturated content landscape. Thought leadership feeds are overflowing. Every platform rewards volume. The noise is deafening -- and growing. In that environment, executives who have done the foundational work of establishing a clear, differentiated positioning don't just stand out. They compound.

It's one of the least invested-in strategies in executive branding. Yet, in my experience, it's also one of the most effective.

Positioning gives a leader's communications a throughline -- a reason for every op-ed, keynote, panel, and post to exist beyond simply occupying space. It creates coherence. It builds recognition. And over time, it builds trust at a velocity that ad hoc visibility simply can't match.

So if you're an executive reading this and you haven't deliberately defined your positioning, consider this your invitation. Not because it's trendy. Because the leaders who do this work now will have a compounded advantage that becomes harder to close with every passing quarter.

  3. A quotation from Samuel Johnson

There is nothing more dreadful to an author than neglect, compared with which reproach, hatred, and opposition are names of happiness; yet this worse, this meanest fate, every one who dares to write has reason to fear.

  9. What It Costs To Be Seen

You probably became a writer because you loved books, not because you wanted to be a full-time internet personality. Yet the prevailing wisdom in publishing right now is that authors need platforms. It’s not enough to write a good book. These days, you’ve got to build your audience before your book exists. I know authors who obsess about the algorithms. They show up online consistently and spend hours each week creating interesting, original content. Even my agent agrees that publishers increasingly want writers who have both a manuscript and built-in visibility, engagement, and a personal brand.

  20. For executives, board members, and senior leadership teams, the question is not whether to implement DEI programs, but rather how to integrate them deeply and authentically into the fabric of organizational operations to drive tangible value. A rapidly shifting demographic reality, and a workforce that demands purpose alongside profit makes DEI as a critical driver of financial performance, operational resilience, and brand equity.

Robust DEI programs have direct contribution to business value, transformative impact on employee moral and productivity. More than that, DEI initiatives play important role in public relations and stakeholder management while at the same time helping brands to meet ESG standards. mediascope.group/dei-is-import

  22. A quotation from Lincoln

Slavery is doomed, and that within a few years. Even Judge Douglas admits it to be an evil, and an evil can’t stand discussion. In discussing it we have taught a great many thousands of people to hate it who had never given it a thought before. What kills the skunk is the publicity it gives itself. What a skunk wants to do is to keep snug under the barn in daytime, when men are around with shotguns.

Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) American lawyer, politician, US President (1861-65)
Interview (1859-09-17?) with David R. Locke, Columbus, Ohio
