  1. Telopea mongaensis (Monga waratah) in Monga National Park, Monga, NSW ... #Monga ;)

I really like this waratah as a garden plant but rarely see it available in nurseries. It is used in some modern hybrids to give the 'classic' NSW waratah (T. speciosissima) a bit more cold tolerance with a compact/bushy habit.

✧ New South Wales waratah ✧

The New South Wales waratah (Telopea speciosissima) is a large shrub in the family Proteaceae. Endemic to New South Wales, Australia, it is the floral emblem of that state. It grows as a shrub to 3–4 m (10–13 ft) high and 2 m (7 ft) wide, with dark green leaves and several stems rising from a pronounced woody base known as a lignotuber. During t...

  30. This is such an embarrassing plant label. Waratah is not African. It's an iconic Australian plant. I'm resigned to African protea repeatedly being wrongly called natives in Australia, but this is a new low in misinformation. #ozplants #Proteaceae

  35. Carrington Falls Grevillea - Grevillea rivularis - endangered NSW species with a very limited population in the wild. I've ended up with several plants in a paddock, presumably seedlings from an old stock plant. Foliage is pretty prickly which is probably why it's rarely seen in nurseries - with many cultivated plants actually x acanthifolia hybrids (like 'Carrington Cross'). G. rivularis is also said to be one part of the well known 'Bronze Rambler' hybrid (crossed with 'Poorinda Peter').
