    As Trump announced today the 25% tariff on agricultural products, I got lost for you into the rabbit hole of US trade balances of agricultural products.

    My 5 cent:
    The US are fairly independent in the sectors of feed grains (no wonder, being the world's largest exporter), livestock and oilseeds; and of the manufactured products, dairy and bakery.

    Some sectors look *on paper* like they are balanced: e.g. "Fruit and tree nuts": 47% of US consumption are imported, 44% of US production are exported. Here I can almost hear the dudes in White House chuckling and realizing that they can cover the domestic demand with "American products". Maybe... just nobody told 'em that they will choke on the almonds, pistacchios and walnuts of California, because these nuts are the main share of "fruit and tree nuts export".
