I just rediscovered this article at @eLife on efficient #ScienceCommunication.
Seven insightful tips on, how to discuss #preprints on #SocialMedia. A valuable resource for those, who want to get started with posting about preprints and scientific literature in general.

💬 Latest thought piece in @force11 blog by Daniela Saderi & @csmarcum asks how we can ensure that scientific findings remain openly available as a public good and accessible for independent evaluation amid shifting political priorities and publishing models.
Open community peer review distributes the power to participate in science, creating a more resilient scholarly communication ecosystem.

New study: "#Preprints are increasingly treated as legitimate, autonomous objects of #citation independent of their later publication status."
https://arxiv.org/abs/2607.25220v1PS: I'm fine with this, and so are the authors of this study.
I'm from the humanities, where it's common to cite unpublished letters and manuscripts, countless fiction and nonfiction genres never subject to peer review, and even an occasional "personal communication to the author". Cite your best sources, or your actual sources, and let readers judge their relevance and credibility. Every citation carries an implicit #FWIW ("for what it's worth").
I've seen fellow scholars insist that citable works must (1) be published, (2) be peer-reviewed, (3) have DOIs, or (4) most absurdly, be PDFs. To me, this is superstitious.

#OnVousExplique les principes et le fonctionnement de #VeriXiv : une plateforme de #Préprints « vérifiés » : vérificaton des auteurs, de la dimension éthique, de l'intégrité de la recherche et de son ouverture)

Paywall sucks, and I get that not everyone and every institute can pay for Open Access, but you know what's a great workaround? Posting preprints!
And I would be very happy to see more people in social sciences and the humanities doing that. -
Following a discussion on #preprints, I went looking for my oldest submission to @biorxivpreprint: April 2014, 5 months after bioRxiv started. I had a handful of preprints on @arXiv q-bio 2012-2014, but it's with bioRxiv that I started preprinting systematically.

Major new study comparing biomedical #preprints with versions later published in peer-reviewed journals:
https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/2026.06.30.735556v1"The primary claim was unchanged in 39.9% of abstracts, minorly revised in 50.0% [mostly for level of confidence], and substantially revised in only 10.2%…Over the same period [2018-2025], biomedical papers that were never posted as preprints were retracted at roughly twice the rate of those that were."

A research story isn't complete with out the data. That's why its so important for investigators to deposit their data in a repository.
Through our partnership with bioRxiv & medRxiv, preprint authors can submit data to Dryad when they upload their article - just like authors submitting to journals.

Very interesting case study on how preprint repositories "enabled fringe researchers to post and share pseudoscientific" research. This study focuses on preprints about "group differences…analyz[ing] controversial phenotypes, most frequently intelligence and related traits, and further[ing] classical, widely rejected hereditarian and eugenic theories."

Oh yes, the academic journals have been a focus of discussion for decades now. For example, #preprints (1990s) and #openaccess journals (2000s) were launched as consequences of these discuissions.
However, none of these developments did much to dent the pernicicious effects these journals have had on scholarship.
In 2022, the European Comission has launched a project it now is expanding into a journal replacement: Open Research Europe (ORE).

Where do British political scientists preprint?
If the answer is the Elsevier-owned SSRN can you suggest alternatives?
EDIT: My sample (n=1) report they use OSF, which is good enough for me!

We’ve been receiving a lot of #AI focused submissions. While some of these submission are suitable for Engineering Archive, many have only a tenuous connection to #engineering.
We’ve implemented an AI policy linked below and would further encourage AI researchers to consider submitting to https://aixiv.science/ as an alternative venue for your work.
