Sharing data, findings, research methods, and our understanding isn't just part of science...it *is* science. Charging computer scientists for conducting computer science is part of a broader war on science and should be resisted by all people in the sciences.
Making an example of (a very naive for talking to the FBI) Virgil Griffith is very much telling people that computer scientists and programmers, generally are *not* safe in the United States, that nothing has changed since the days of Dmitry Sklyarov.
This is the sort of thing that would keep me from *ever* stepping foot on US soil.
