Really good advice for players.

Looking at my list of YouTube videos, many of them are about how to improve the D&D experience. This can imply that D&D is broken, or that it requires a degree of effort to 'get good', etc.
Let's be clear. Most DMs can be better at running the game. Most players can be better at playing the game. But it's still a game. Have fun. Be yourself and enjoy the experience.
Your D&D game is better than not playing D&D at all.

As a DM, I see a lot of players write character backstories in two different ways.
1) They give almost nothing, maybe a couple sentences or just a character sheet.
2) They give a novel about the amazing exploits they accomplished and challenges they faced.
I have been guilty of both of these.My Advice is to keep the short story to a couple paragraphs, focus on the important stuff, make it reasonable for the level of the PC.
