#OTD Lester Rowntree, American #Botanist & #Writer, is born.A fierce #Conservationist, Lester believed living w/ plants led to understanding. She was often compared to the incredible #PlantExplorer David Douglas, but unlike Douglas, who died young, Lester lived to be 100.
She wrote,
"I [approach] plants from the # Gardener's, not the scientist's, standpoint...
I [write] from my own notes, taken on the spot, of the things the #Plants have told me in personal interviews."
