  1. After two weeks of backpacking at #Philmont, I'm still finding it kind of weird and disorienting to wake up on an actual bed (which is flat! and comfortable!).

  2. Back from 12 awesome days of backpacking in #Philmont. It was great to go to sleep in my own (flat - no slopes!) bed last night without having to toss my smellables (eg toothpaste) in bear line’s “oops” bag.

Downside? A great trip is over. And the humidity in PA is oppressive compared to the dry air of the New Mexico mountains.

  3. Final #Philmont Preparation Trek: 30 miles in 3 days, going from the Mill Brook Road trailhead for the Appalachian Trail to High Point State Park in NJ.

It included an 11-mile day (Saturday) and a 13-mile day (Sunday). The crew did well on a tough trek featuring awesome views and a lot of rocks (though, ahem, not as many rocks as Pennsylvania).

Now relaxing with a beer, a book, and a Mets game.

  4. 2.5 mile outdoor run. Inhaled about a pound of pollen. It’s not running as hard as running at altitude (#Philmont base camp is at 6’700 ft) but damn, it’s not easy. #GeekFitness #Running #ReturnToPhilmont).

  5. My new Hoka running sneakers. As always, the new sneaks feel like running on clouds. #RunGeekRun #GeekFitness #Philmont

  6. The trail to Philmont occasionally claims a victim.

This week, my Hokas (which were overdue to be replaced) met their end. #Philmont #RunGeekRun #GeekFitness

  7. Final #Philmont payment made.

Baldy Mountain, we're coming for you!

  8. #Philmont Ho! (we got our trek itinerary). 53 miles + Baldy Mountain (which NeutronLad and I didn't get to do last time we went).

    Hell yeah.

Now ... time to start hitting the stairs. So many damn stairs.

  9. Sipping my morning coffee, waiting for the snow to hit, and browsing #Philmont itineraries.

It's a fun juxtaposition to be waiting for 5+ inches of snow while evaluating 50+ mile backpacking hikes through the New Mexico high desert this summer.

  10. One step closer to #Philmont as the crew took Wilderness First Aid training AND planned out the next six months worth of preparatory trips.

[sigh] Can't wait to get back out on the trail... #OutdoorGeek

  11. Girl dinner took a downward turn tonight. One of my son’s friends just got back from working at Philmont backpacking scout camp and gave us some extra backpacking food. Apparently Dinner #2, Santa Fe Style Rice & Beans with Chicken, was not popular with the scouts. So far I’ve consumed the oreos. :). #girldinner #Philmont #backpacking

  12. Last Friday I climbed Baldy Mountain with my son and his trek mates. So awesome! What a great adventure we had.

  13. Hmm, fun times at #Philmont #NM -- wonder if they have crews out there right now. Seems like you'd want a weather radio or just steer clear of all flash flood zones there nowadays.

  14. Up and atom. Yesterday was a storm of to-dos, many of which got derailed by my sidequest to get a new phone (my old phone took one too many bumps after surviving the trip to #Philmont and back, so it was time for a new one).

Today? Trying to get organized while navigating more meetings than I'd like. #DownPeriscope
