    Jour 3 – mystère

    C’est bien moi qui ai photographié le disque de Phaistos au musée d’Heraklion en 2019, comme le font des milliers de touristes chaque année…

    Mais le mystère, c’est de savoir s’il date des années –1800 ou –1600, ou alors de 1908. Les inscriptions par des poinçons sont si singulières qu’un doute est permis. C’est surtout Jerome M. Eisenberg, un marchand d’antiquités (pas toujours clean) qui a contesté l’authenticité de l’artefact, et il est mort en 2022. De plus le musée crétois refuse de faire procéder à une datation par thermoluminescence, alors le mystère demeure, et peut-être pour longtemps…

    there is a cheap and excellent bus service from #Heraklion, so you don't really need a car to get to #Knossos.
    sewage and rain drains are intentionally mixed in modern drainage systems, because the rain water helps to dilute and move the sewage.
    the #PhaistosDisc is often called the first known "movable type system", which is correct. some people might conflate that with a printing system a la Gutenberg.
