il 2026 porta con sé nuovi messaggi, numeri aggiornati e una forte richiesta globale: “Invest in Peace”, ovvero “Investire nella pace”.

La data del 29 maggio non è casuale: ricorda infatti il giorno del 1948 in cui nacque la prima missione di peacekeeping dell’ONU, la UNTSO, avviata in Medio Oriente. Da allora le missioni di pace sono diventate una delle attività più delicate e simboliche delle Nazioni Unite.

Nel 2026 il tema ufficiale scelto dall’ONU sottolinea quanto la pace non possa essere data per scontata. In un periodo segnato da tensioni internazionali, crisi umanitarie e conflitti sempre più complessi, le Nazioni Unite chiedono ai governi di sostenere concretamente le missioni di pace con risorse, collaborazione e protezione per il personale impegnato sul campo. Secondo i dati ONU, oggi oltre 50.000 peacekeeper operano in alcune delle aree più difficili del pianeta, tra aiuti umanitari, protezione dei civili e sostegno ai processi democratici.

Il Segretario Generale António Guterres, nel messaggio ufficiale per il 2026, ha ricordato anche i tantissimi uomini e donne che hanno perso la vita durante le missioni di pace: oltre 4.500 dal 1948 a oggi. Un numero che rende questa giornata non solo celebrativa, ma anche profondamente commemorativa.

Anche l’Italia continua ad avere un ruolo importante nelle operazioni internazionali di peacekeeping, confermando il proprio impegno nelle missioni ONU e nelle attività diplomatiche dedicate alla sicurezza internazionale.

La Giornata Mondiale delle Forze di Pace resta così un’occasione preziosa per riflettere sul valore della cooperazione internazionale e sull’importanza di chi, spesso lontano da casa e sotto enormi rischi, lavora ogni giorno per costruire un mondo più sicuro. Perché la pace, oggi più che mai, ha bisogno di persone coraggiose… ma anche di sostegno concreto.
