Mother Grief's Garden

I carried home your last bouquet
and with it a hole in my heart
your eyes never opened
to see the beauty of the blossoms

I think I'll plant a garden in my heart
to occupy the space you left behind
filled with daisies, and sunflowers
all their bright and happy faces

I'll tend the soil to keep it rich
making sure there's always room
for more flowers and plants
and when they die, like you did
I'll fill the garden again and again

I'll plant the seeds, harvested from
the flowers that grew before
in that way, they'll never truly die
like you, because you grew me, too
