  1. Just installed Stratum for 2FA codes. I was using FreeOTP+ but this is just better: it has categories, a compact view, and automatic encrypted backups.

  5. 🚨 Oh, the thrill of watching numbers and codes fly! Who knew subscribing to Discord updates could be such a spy mission? 🙄 Your #OTP will self-destruct in 5 seconds – if you’re lucky enough to receive it! 🔥📱

  7. 📢⚠️ Watch out for this new 11-step DHL phishing scam that uses fake OTP codes and EmailJS to harvest user credentials and device telemetry.

  8. Two-Factor #Authentication (2FA) typically combines a password with a code, whereas Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds more layers, such as biometrics (fingerprint/face) or hardware tokens. Read MFA vs 2FA: What's the difference windowspost.com/2fa-vs-mfa/

Key Differences Between 2FA and MFA

Number of Factors: 2FA limits authentication to two layers (e.g., password + OTP), while MFA can incorporate three or more (e.g., password + OTP + fingerprint).

Security Level: MFA generally provides superior security against sophisticated attacks because it relies on multiple independent factors.

Complexity & UX: 2FA offers a more streamlined user experience with fewer steps. MFA may cause more user friction due to additional login steps, but it enhances security.

Flexibility: MFA offers greater flexibility, allowing organizations to adopt adaptive, risk-based authentication, while 2FA is a fixed two-step process

2FA Example: Entering a password (knowledge) and a code texted to your phone (possession).

MFA Example: Entering a password, a code from an app, and using a biometric scan (fingerprint or face)

  13. An OTP (One Time Password) is valid for exactly 30–60 seconds.
Even though no one stores it anywhere. So, how does the server verify it without ever saving it?

    Well, that’s usually called a Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP).

    Here’s how it actually works:

    • A secret key is shared between your device and the server (only once)
    • Both use the current time window (like 30 seconds)
    • And a secure algorithm (HMAC)

Using these, both sides generate the same OTP independently.

    ✅ No storage
    ✅ No database lookup
    ✅ Just math + time

When you enter the OTP, the server simply regenerates it and checks:
    👉 “Does this match?”

That’s how your OTP is verified… without ever being saved. 🔐

  18. I've been rebuilding some of my #erlang applications to conform to #OTP application standards and by gods, is that difficult! My goal was multithreading and observability as my work requires handling thousands of operations per second. But the built-in Erl Observer doesn't show my applications or modules when they're running. Everything runs on local for now. Any of you erlang wizzards know how to make mine visible to the Observer application?

  19. Ah, yes, because what #JavaScript needed was to masquerade as an Erlang/OTP process 🤦‍♂️. #The only thing more mind-numbing than this concept is the GitHub README that reads like it was written by a bot high on caffeine. But hey, at least it comes with a "*builtin #TypeScript toolchain*"—because #reinventing the #wheel with unnecessary #complexity is always in vogue! 🚀

  20. 🚨 Oh no, GitHub's down again! Panic ensues as developers collectively scream into the void while trying to #unsubscribe from the avalanche of useless email notifications. 📧🔄 Maybe they can use this downtime to finally figure out how to unsubscribe—if only they could receive the #OTP. 🤦‍♂️

  21. I remember seeing a post on Tumblr that was a "shortcut" to making yourself enjoy a ship that you dislike: imagine them as a polycule with a ship you do enjoy. (Given as advice to someone upset that they couldn't enjoy fanworks of a popular ship that was their NoTP.)

Think of your NoTP. Now imagine a poly relationship combining them with your OTP. Does this advice change anything for you?

  23. Wow, #CanadaRevenue #CRA finally added #OTP app #authentication as an option for multi-factor!
Took long enough. The whole PDF grid thing was secure if no one else ever got it, but weird.

  24. @pygora For me, a password or #passkey is comparable, so the same vault is fine for that. For #otp you can do things differently, such as using a second vault, hardware token, or mobile app.

  26. Ah, another article with the groundbreaking revelation that #BEAM and #OTP are still undefeated champions of concurrency! 🤯 Let's all pretend to be shocked when the next overhyped framework crashes and burns, while the #Erlang folks quietly smirk in the corner. 😂💥
